About this role
**Operational Area: Forensic Psychiatry**
We are Uppsala University Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we serve two million people in Central Sweden. There is always something happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both challenging trials and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se. We welcome your application!
**Operational Area: Forensic Psychiatry**
The Forensic Psychiatry department at Uppsala University Hospital relocated in spring 2024 from the old Ulleråker area to entirely new facilities in Jälla, just northeast of Uppsala. The existing department – with security classification 3 – opened in Jälla in April 2024 under the new name 5B. In September, an additional department – with security classification 2, named 5A – was opened. At that time, a hospital-wide reorganization was also carried out, establishing forensic psychiatry as its own operational area, VO Forensic Psychiatry, within Area 6 (Psychiatry).
The target group for forensic psychiatric care consists of patients who have been assessed by the court to suffer from a severe mental disorder as the basis for the committed crime, and for whom the penalty has been decided to be transfer to forensic psychiatric care instead of imprisonment. Forensic psychiatry provides forensic psychiatric care and rehabilitation through a cross-professional, integrated approach between inpatient and outpatient care, in close collaboration with other community actors. The goal of the care is to stabilize the underlying illness that led to the crime through effective treatment and to gradually train skills over several years, enabling a sustainable return to society with a significantly reduced risk of reoffending. VO Forensic Psychiatry at Uppsala University Hospital is also a significant purchaser of inpatient care in other regions due to a severe shortage of its own care places (referred care for convicted individuals).
