Overview
As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT) Manager, you will lead a team of technicians, guiding hardware deployments, diagnostics, and decommissions. You will support technician performance, prioritize tasks, and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This role allows you to model leadership, train technicians, and grow your career.
Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) powers our cloud services. As a DCT Manager, you will help deliver the core infrastructure behind Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. CO+I supports employee development through training, career rotations, D&I programs, and certifications.

Responsibilities
• Manage end-to-end people processes including recruitment, performance evaluations, scheduling, and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with Data Center Technicians.
• Demonstrate leadership by modeling, coaching, and building a positive team culture.
• Lead team meetings, prioritize work, and adjust tasks as needed.
• Ensure overall data center service quality and compliance.
• Confirm technicians are trained on installation, deployment, replacement, and quality check procedures.
• Verify post-execution quality checks and take corrective action when required.
• Escalate issues appropriately and follow up on resolutions while sharing learnings.
• Complete safety training, conduct daily safety briefings, and participate in safety committees.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures (PPE, equipment use, lifting, electrical hazards, ladder safety).
• Promote a strong safety culture and empower technicians to report concerns.
• Take pride and ownership in service quality and customer experience.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent plus basic knowledge of computer hardware/components AND 3+ years supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• 1+ year of experience supervising, directing, or managing others.
Background Checks
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 4+ years supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• 3+ years working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL Foundation, CompTIA A+/Server+/Network+, BSC, CDCP, MCP, Six Sigma Green Belt).
• 2+ years leading diverse technical or IT teams of up to ten employees.
