**Description of the Workplace**
The subjects of Arabic and Hebrew are located within the Department of Semitic Languages and Middle Eastern Studies at the Center for Languages and Literature.
Currently, the department offers instruction in Modern Standard Arabic, Arabic dialects, Modern Hebrew, and Middle Eastern studies. In the Arabic subject, courses are provided at all levels, from beginner to master’s courses at an advanced level. In the Hebrew subject, courses are offered at the beginner level. The Middle Eastern studies subject currently offers a limited number of undergraduate courses due to a planned restructuring of the bachelor’s program. PhD training is available in Semitic languages. The current doctoral students in the subject specialize in Arabic literature, linguistics, and philology and study at least one additional Semitic language.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
The position includes teaching (maximum 70%), research/professional development (at least 20%), and time for other duties (10%). Responsibilities include course development, planning, teaching, and assessment for courses in Arabic and Arabic dialects at various levels, as well as teaching Hebrew at the beginner level.
**Qualifications**
To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer in Semitic languages, you must have:
- Completed a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence in the subject.
- Strong pedagogical experience and the ability to conduct, develop, and lead teaching and other educational activities at various levels with varying teaching methods.
- Completed a university pedagogy course of at least five weeks or acquired equivalent knowledge through other means.
For this position, it is also required that you have:
- The ability to teach in Swedish, Arabic, and Hebrew.
For this temporary position, exceptions to the requirement for university pedagogy training may be considered if justified in light of other qualifications.
**Meritorious for the Position**
The assessment criteria will generally consider the degree of scientific, pedagogical, administrative, and other skills relevant to the subject matter and tasks of the position, as well as personal abilities that are significant for successfully completing the tasks.
Additionally, the following are meritorious:
- Extensive experience in teaching courses at the university level in Arabic and Hebrew at various levels.
- Previous experience in teaching courses with similar content relevant to the position.
- Experience in research and/or teaching within relevant languages for the subject.
- Ability to teach in Swedish.
- Strong collaborative skills.

**About the Center for Languages and Literature**
The Center for Languages and Literature (SOL) is Sweden’s largest institution focused on languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers around 500 standalone courses complemented by an expanding number of degree programs at the undergraduate and advanced levels. With its 36 subjects and about 30 doctoral programs, SOL forms a solid unit with both breadth and depth in education and research and is characterized by national as well as international visibility. SOL is led by a board with the head of the department as chair, along with three deputy heads who have special operational responsibilities.
