For more information, please visit: https://www.umu.se/kultmed The Department of Culture and Media Studies is announcing a temporary position as a university lecturer in Art and Visual Studies. The position is a full-time substitute, starting on January 1, 2026, or as agreed, and extending until June 30, 2026. Job Description The responsibilities include online teaching in Art and Visual Studies, such as seminar supervision, thesis guidance, and examinations, as well as standard course administration. Some subject administration and course development may also be included in the role. The position includes professional development time equivalent to 20% of the working hours. Eligibility Criteria for the Position To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, the candidate must have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency and have obtained a doctoral degree in Art and Visual Studies or possess equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the tasks to be performed. Good language skills in Swedish (or another Scandinavian language) and English, as well as the ability to teach in these languages, are required for the position. Assessment Criteria for Selection The assessment criteria for selection are: scientific and pedagogical proficiency in the field of Art and Visual Studies or equivalent, experience in online teaching, and administrative skills. Other assessment criteria include good collaboration skills and the competence and suitability required to perform the tasks effectively. Scientific proficiency must be demonstrated through independent scientific production. The criteria for assessment are: - Breadth and depth of research – quality and scope - Originality in research - Productivity - Contribution to the international scientific community - Engagement in the scientific community - Ability to secure external research funding competitively - Collaboration with the surrounding society Pedagogical proficiency for the position of university lecturer must be demonstrated through documented experience of teaching based on scientific principles at the university level. The criteria for assessing pedagogical proficiency in scientific positions are: - Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching, as well as supervise and examine students at all educational levels - Ability to vary teaching methods and forms of assessment in relation to expected learning outcomes and the nature of the subject - Experience of collaboration with the surrounding society in planning and implementing education - Participation in the development of learning environments, teaching materials, and textbooks - A reflective approach to student learning and one's own teaching role Competence can be obtained through higher education pedagogical training, other relevant training for teaching at the university, or documented, proven experience of teaching at the university. Balancing Assessment Criteria Equal care should be given to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific proficiency. In balancing these two assessment criteria, they should be given equal weight. Particular emphasis should be placed on scientific and pedagogical proficiency in Art and Visual Studies. In assessing scientific proficiency, special attention should be given to research competence within the main field of Art and Visual Studies or equivalent. In assessing pedagogical proficiency, special attention should be given to breadth in subject competencies within Art and Visual Studies or equivalent. Emphasis should be placed on competencies in art and visual studies, or art history, focused on more modern periods. Great importance should be placed on experience in online teaching. Emphasis should be placed on administrative skills. In assessing other criteria, importance should be given to experience in collaboration within teaching teams and the competence and suitability required to perform the tasks effectively.
