The Department of Informatics is seeking a temporary university lecturer in informatics with a focus on courses in digital media production.
The position is fixed-term for 1 year, starting in the spring semester of 2026.
Main Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the position are within the field of informatics, a subject focused on the digitalization of society. The tasks involve approximately 80% teaching and supervision primarily at the undergraduate level, where our courses are taught in Swedish. Most of the teaching will take place in both introductory and advanced courses in digital media production, including areas such as digital storytelling, visual communication, the future of the digital media society, and digital tools. Teaching includes lectures, leading seminars, supervision, assessment, course development, and course management, along with associated administrative tasks.
Additionally, professional development (20%) will be offered through planned development time. The responsibilities include actively applying for external research funding and keeping abreast of developments in the field and societal changes more broadly. The holder of the position is expected to actively contribute to the department's efforts to find synergies between its research areas in terms of both education and research.
About the Position
The position is a temporary appointment for 1 year, starting in the spring semester of 2026. The placement is at the Department of Informatics, and the university lecturer is expected to be present at the department and participate in the unit's other activities.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, according to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, the applicant must have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency, hold a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence, or have other professional qualifications that are significant in relation to the subject matter of the position and the tasks to be included in the appointment. Eligibility requires a doctoral degree in informatics.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria include the degree of scientific, pedagogical, and other skills that are relevant in relation to the subject matter of the position and the tasks to be included in the appointment. Special emphasis will be placed on pedagogical and scientific proficiency, with greater weight given to pedagogical skills in the assessment.
In evaluating pedagogical skills, particular attention will be paid to experience in planning, implementing, assessing, and evaluating teaching, as well as the applicant's reflective approach to student learning and their own teaching role. Significant weight will be given to teaching experience in digital media production.
In assessing scientific proficiency, special attention will be given to research merits in informatics and demonstrated ability to contribute to research development in the field.
In evaluating other skills, particular emphasis will be placed on administrative proficiency and the ability to communicate well in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as the teaching will be conducted in Swedish.
A general requirement for teachers at Umeå University is good collaborative skills, as well as the competence and suitability needed to perform the tasks effectively.
