About this role
State Institutions Board (SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually tailored compulsory care for youth with complex psychosocial issues and adults with substance abuse. SiS also implements closed youth care. We do this at youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse, throughout the country. At SiS, your work life becomes an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work, or what position you hold, you help create vital change.
SiS Youth Home Långanäs receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial problems, criminal behavior, and substance abuse.
Job Description
Your assignment involves teaching physical education and health at the high school level, as well as conducting instruction at the primary school level, since many of our students lack final grades from primary school. To succeed in your teaching assignment, you must be able to build relationships with your students - this is the starting point in our work that leads to students developing their learning and abilities. Your personal suitability is the key to vital change. Therefore, you need to be a warm, empathetic person driven by a strong inner passion and desire to create extraordinary results. Being a colleague who shares knowledge and contributes to the team spirit at SiS are other qualities that make you interesting. It is equally important that you have a deeply rooted positive view of people and an ability to handle conflicts constructively.
We work in teams where we expect you to contribute your knowledge and learnings, and where collegial learning is a natural part of your teaching assignment. You will become part of a team that works together to create a positive work environment where everyone's ideas are respected and welcomed.
As a new employee, you will undergo SiS basic training. The training alternates between theory and supervised introduction, equipping you for the role of teacher in SiS operations.
Qualifications
We are primarily seeking someone with a physical education teaching certification and qualification to teach at the high school level. We also welcome those with teaching certification for grades 7-9.
You should also have:
• Previous experience as a physical education teacher
• Class B driver's license
Additional certifications in other subjects and special education training are meritorious. Previous experience in youth care is welcome.
We desire the following qualifications:
• A good student perspective - where the equal value of all people is a given and you have cultural awareness
• Pedagogical insight - where you are flexible in your thinking, creative, and enjoy working thematically and interdisciplinarily
• Relationship-building with an empathetic ability, recognizing that relationship is the foundation of student learning and development
• Ability to collaborate while working independently, structured, and taking initiative
• Stable, with personal maturity, integrity, and clarity
• Persistent - not giving up easily and believing in the student's ability to succeed in learning
