About this role
Strängnäs Municipality's Preschools are entering an exciting phase where development, research, and quality are in focus. We are now seeking a Department Head who wants to lead this work forward!
The Children and Education Committee's areas of operation include preschool, pedagogical care, primary school with after-school programs, adapted school, high school, Swedish for Immigrants/Adult Education, and student health services. In our preschool division, we have 380 employees distributed across 20 municipal preschools. These are divided into four units. Each unit has a principal, 1-2 deputy principals, and a special education pedagogue. The preschool also has two development leaders.
Would you like to work with me and other managers in my management team and collectively take responsibility for management, governance, coordination, and follow-up of the educational office's activities? Ensuring that children, students, and learners in Strängnäs' municipally operated facilities receive the best possible conditions for learning, development, and well-being?
Then I have a job for you.
My name is Teddy, and I work as the Education Director, leading the Education Office together with my management team. I am now seeking a new Department Head for my team. Our current Preschool Department Head has chosen to retire, and we are looking for a new colleague who wants to take over and shoulder the responsibility for our municipal preschool operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As Department Head, you will have overall responsibility for coordinating and developing preschool activities. You will lead principals and support functions and be responsible for the holistic aspects of pedagogy, personnel, economy, and work environment. You will work both strategically and practically, creating structures that enable sustainable growth of the organization over time.
Currently, we are participating in HOPE, a three-year development program in collaboration with Stockholm University, and we are actively investing in internal skills development. We want to continue being at the forefront, participate in research, and drive preschool development forward.
Our Pelikanen Preschool Center is a place for internal skills development and collegial learning within preschool. Here, we work together in close collaboration, which strengthens the work environment, increases participation, and contributes to equality and quality across the entire preschool operation.
You will become part of the Education Office's management team and collaborate with the Education Director, Administrative Manager, Department Head of Language and Support, and other Department Heads for primary and secondary/adult education. We work from a comprehensive F-19 perspective regarding health-promoting and preventive child and student health work.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking someone who has:
• A completed academic education with a pedagogical orientation
• A completed principal training
• Experience working in preschool
• Several years of management experience in pedagogical activities, with strong merit if your management experience is from municipal preschool
• Experience leading managers
• Good experience with systematic quality work
• Strong ability to express oneself well verbally and in writing in Swedish
• Proficiency in using IT as a work support
• B driver's license
We are seeking someone confident in leading in complex contexts. You are a manager who listens, supports, and creates engagement. You have the ability to communicate clearly, delegate with trust, and point out a direction while providing space for individual initiatives. You see the big picture and can connect different levels of quality work. You share the Education Office's value that "we make each other better" and lead with a strong ethical compass.
We are a team looking to move forward, and we seek a leader who wants to make the journey together with us.
Warmly welcome to apply!
