Vaxholm Municipality is now seeking a Water Strategist who wants to contribute to the municipality's work on water-related sustainability issues. From water conservation and stormwater management to sustainable boating and climate adaptation. The Urban Planning Administration consists of six units: building permits, planning and development, technical unit, culture and library, large projects, and the administration team. A total of approximately 60 people work in the Urban Planning Administration, of which 12 are in the administration team. The administration team works for and with the other units within the department to achieve our common missions and goals. We have expertise in geodata, GIS, mapping and measurement, law, communication, business development, administration, digitalization, and ecological sustainability. About the Role As a Water Strategist, you will play a central role in coordinating and driving the municipality's water strategy work. You will work strategically, advisory, and operationally, focusing on strengthening the municipality's planning from a water perspective. Together with our Environmental Strategist, you will contribute to the municipality's joint efforts in sustainability issues. You will participate in the municipality's sustainability group and support the work of the city's climate and environmental committee. The work is varied and offers significant opportunities to influence how the municipality's water management should develop and progress. You will be responsible for ensuring that the work aligns with Agenda 2030, the EU Water Framework Directive, and the action program for the Northern Baltic Sea water district. Examples of Responsibilities - Coordinate the municipality's work in water management, water conservation, and stormwater management - Work with and implement governing documents, strategies, and local action programs - Process cases and provide advice on water issues within community planning - Initiate, participate in, and drive projects related to water and sustainable development - Convey knowledge and strengthen the municipality's expertise in the water sector - Participate in internal and external networks and represent the municipality in regional collaboration forums - Collaborate closely with the Southern Roslagen Environmental and Health Protection Office (SRMH), Roslagsvatten, and other departments - Contribute to the joint sustainability efforts with a holistic view where water is seen as an integrated part of the municipality's climate and environmental work Your Profile We are looking for someone with a relevant academic background, such as in water conservation, limnology, or environmental science. You preferably have several years of experience working with water issues at a strategic level and good knowledge of water-related legislation, such as the EU Water Directive, the Environmental Code, and associated regulations. You are accustomed to working with GIS, and it is advantageous if you have experience with water and stormwater issues within municipal operations. Since the role involves both internal and external communication, it is important that you express yourself well in both speech and writing. As a person, you are proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented. You thrive on driving issues independently but also enjoy working together with others in complex contexts. There is an opportunity for remote work 1–2 days per week by agreement. The employment is permanent, with a start date to be agreed upon. A probationary period may apply.
