About this role
The County Administrative Board's approximately 300 employees work as the government's representative at the regional level. Our mission is to develop the county and ensure that national political goals are implemented locally. We strive to be an authority free from discrimination and aim to harness the qualities that diversity brings to our operations.
At the Water Unit, over 40 employees work year-round, along with an additional 15-20 seasonal staff during the field season (May-October). We address a wide range of issues related to water, fishing, and environmental monitoring in the county. This includes everything from the restoration of aquatic environments, liming, and fishing to water management, environmental analysis, and drinking water supply. The unit also operates its own water laboratory, which plays a central role in the county administrative boards' work on lime effect monitoring. The Water Unit is continuously working to increase the pace of actions and implementation in the county, both by providing grants for local water conservation and fishing projects through fishing conservation grants, and by seeking new water conservation projects within the EU's various environmental and fishing funds. The unit is staffed by experts who are eager to share their knowledge.
We work with respect, professionalism, and openness for the county's residents – together for a sustainable future!
**Description**
Physical impacts in the form of previous timber floating, migration barriers, drainage, and water regulation for electricity production are the most significant impacts on the county's lakes and waterways.
One of the County Administrative Board's tasks related to this is to promote the restoration of aquatic environments in various ways, both by supporting and guiding different local stakeholders and by seeking, managing, and implementing projects that involve concrete physical measures.
The Water Unit is now seeking a water officer focused on water restoration, who will primarily work within the Ecostreams for Life project (https://www.ecostreamsforlife.com/).
**Responsibilities**
In the County Administrative Board's work on restoring aquatic environments, collaboration with various water conservation stakeholders at the regional and local levels, along with the concretization and prioritization of measures, are crucial elements for the successful implementation of concrete actions. To carry out high-quality measures, extensive preparatory work is required, including planning, securing support from land and fishing rights holders, and applying for permits under the Environmental Code. During the implementation phase, coordination and management of seasonal field staff and contracted machine operators will be necessary.
The position will encompass both overarching project management and concrete coordination and planning of prioritized restoration measures.
Daily work will take place within the operational area "Fishing and Measures" in the working group for the Restoration of Water and Wetlands, but in close collaboration with the functions for Environmental Analysis and Water Management, where the unit's collective work with data and knowledge bases, as well as assessments of water status and measures needed according to the EU Water Framework Directive, are conducted.
Other tasks within the unit may also be relevant to the position.
**Qualifications**
We are looking for someone with relevant education related to biology/water conservation/fishery management or other education that the employer deems relevant for the position. You should have at least one year of work experience relevant to the position.
We seek a structured water officer with strong collaboration skills and the ability to build good relationships both internally and externally. Since the work involves travel, a valid driver's license (Category B) is required.
As a person, you work purposefully towards common goals, have a good overall perspective and a structured approach, are receptive and unpretentious, and create positive relationships – both internally and externally. You communicate effectively and appropriately for the target audience in a simple and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
We place great emphasis on your personal abilities. Living by the state's values is also a given for you.
**Meritorious**
Experience in project management, the Environmental Code, and using mapping services within ArcGIS Pro or equivalent is advantageous.
**Conditions**
We offer you a meaningful job with varied tasks. You will make a difference for our county and community. The County Administrative Board is a broad authority, which means you will constantly have opportunities to develop and learn new things across various policy areas.
As an employer, we focus on good employment conditions, active work environment efforts, and health-promoting wellness activities. We value collaboration with our trade union partners and can offer remote work.
In the case of a permanent position at the County Administrative Board, you will be assigned to the authority. Depending on the position, it may involve service in a crisis management team and security classification. We typically start with a probationary period for permanent positions.
