About the workplace
Ersta Hospital is part of Ersta Diakoni and is Sweden's largest non-profit hospital with a clear value foundation – to see the whole person. With roots dating back to 1851, we have provided healthcare in Södermalm, Stockholm, but we welcome patients from all over the country. Here, we offer high-quality, specialized medical care with both breadth and expertise. We are a university hospital unit engaging in research, education, and development in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet. We are growing to help more people, and since 2023, the hospital's capacity has tripled and eight new units have started.
The geriatric clinic consists of three geriatric care wards, a department for specialized rehabilitation, and a cognitive clinic. The specialized geriatric care at Ersta Hospital is characterized by a holistic view of the individual, encompassing all aspects of life. The team consists of doctors, nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists, social workers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, nursing assistants, and administrators with high competence in geriatric care.
As unit manager for Ward 1, you will lead one of Ersta Hospital's largest care departments – a developing operation with significant opportunities to influence both content and working methods.
We offer a leadership environment with support: short decision-making paths, internal management and leadership development programs, and a strong network of colleagues throughout the Ersta Hospital organization.
About the role
As unit manager, you will be responsible for the operations, staff, work environment, and finances of a care ward with approximately 45 employees. You will be a part of the Geriatric Clinic's management team and collaborate closely with other department heads in the hospital.
The assignment is broad and developmental – there are structures to build, teams to shape, and working methods to further develop. You will have the opportunity to work closely with both the operations and the hospital's processes, with the geriatric patient at the center and where multiple professions collaborate under the same roof.
This is a role for someone who thrives in change and wants to help shape something new, rather than managing an existing framework. You will lead an engaged team of healthcare professionals with the support of nursing leaders, staffing assistants, coordinators, and quality representatives. Together, we will build a stable, sustainable, and modern care department that contributes to the overall development of the hospital.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who are a relationship builder, actively working to create a sense of belonging and strong team spirit where everyone feels responsible and involved. You have a clear and coaching leadership style and enjoy building, supporting, and inspiring your team towards continuous improvement. As a leader, you create trust, structure, and joy at work – even when things are in motion.
You come with ideas and new approaches, bringing innovative thinking that leads to results. You communicate clearly and inclusively, ensuring that messages are received and followed up with care and clarity.
With a balance of responsiveness, humility, and decisiveness, you lead with warmth and professionalism – grounded in science and executed with heart. People feel safe, seen, and motivated to contribute to shared goals under your guidance.
You share Ersta’s core values of seeing the whole person and our value words; professionalism, trust, and hope.
