About this role

There is something special about Avesta! Here, you will find not only Dala horses and roaring rapids but also will and courage, action and belief in the future. It is the strength of the people that makes Avesta unique. Together, we are building the future of Avesta – do you want to be a part of it? Avesta Vatten (AVAB) is a municipally owned environmental company with approximately 40 employees. AVAB operates several water and wastewater treatment plants along with their associated networks. The company is also responsible for the collection of household waste. AVAB is a well-managed company with a comprehensive investment budget of around 100 million SEK per year. In 2024, the company had a turnover of approximately 77 million SEK. Currently, Avesta Vatten is facing exciting challenges. We are planning to build a new treatment plant, strengthen and secure the water supply, and we are also working on several larger network projects. AVAB is an important part of Avesta Municipality's future development as an attractive location for businesses and housing. We are now looking for a Water and Wastewater Manager for an important community mission – to ensure clean water, sustainable infrastructure, and a safe water supply for our residents. Do you want to help shape the future of water and wastewater operations in Avesta? This is a role for you who wish to combine leadership, technology, and community engagement – we look forward to your application! **Job Description** As the Water and Wastewater Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the management, development, and operation of Avesta Municipality's water and wastewater services. You will lead a competent and dedicated organization with two operations managers and a total of 19 employees, reporting directly to the CEO of Avesta Vatten and Avfall AB. You will be responsible for both strategic and operational matters within the water and wastewater sector, ensuring that operations are conducted efficiently, sustainably, and in accordance with applicable legislation, particularly the Act on Public Water Services (LAV). Your role will also include: • Driving the development of investment and reinvestment plans for future needs – including the construction of a new treatment plant in the municipality. • Ensuring goal and result fulfillment in terms of finance, personnel, and operations. • Being a clear and knowledgeable representative in municipal and political contexts. • Actively contributing to overarching community development issues in collaboration with other stakeholders. **Qualifications** We are looking for a confident and clear leader with experience in water and wastewater operations, community development, or another related technical sector. You have the ability to drive development, create engagement, and lead with both structure and heart. You possess strong analytical skills and can handle complex issues in a structured manner. You have: • A relevant technical university degree or equivalent experience in water and wastewater, community development, or a similar field. • Good knowledge of LAV and applicable laws and regulations. • Several years of leadership experience, preferably within municipal water and wastewater operations. • Experience from public operations and an understanding of its governance and decision-making processes. • Experience in financial management and budget responsibility. • A valid driver's license (B). Experience in public procurement and project management, competence in BAS-P/BAS-U, as well as experience with mapping and monitoring systems are advantageous. We seek a leader who naturally builds trust, motivates, and develops their employees – both individually and as a group. You lead and communicate with a combination of clarity, responsiveness, and engagement, where you support, encourage, follow up, and provide space for responsibility. You are goal- and results-oriented with the ability to prioritize and drive work forward with quality, efficiency, and sustainability. You work towards a positive work culture with a focus on collaboration, service, and good interactions. The position is security classified, and a security clearance will be conducted for the selected candidate before employment can be offered.
