About this role

The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemikalieinspektionen) is a government authority tasked with reducing the risks of harm to people and the environment from chemicals. As an employee with us, you will be part of significant work for sustainable development in Sweden, within the EU, and globally. We are 250 employees, and our office is located in central Sundbyberg. The Development Department develops strategies, chemical regulations, and other governance tools within KemI's area of responsibility, both nationally, within the EU, and internationally. The department is also responsible for environmental goal work and international development efforts. The EU Coordination Unit is responsible for managing issues related to the development and implementation of EU legislation and policy within the framework of EU cooperation. Main responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and preparing materials for EU meetings, as well as developing and driving prioritized issues within various regulatory areas. We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to more sustainable development. **JOB DESCRIPTION** The work in the unit involves collaborating with colleagues at the Swedish Chemicals Agency, other authorities in Sweden, and in other EU countries to develop and implement Sweden's policy in the chemical area as well as EU chemical legislation. It is an exciting and at times intensive job that takes place on several different levels, ranging from detailed issues, method development, and analysis to preparing materials for political positions. The work includes preparing materials and issues for working, expert, and committee meetings within EU and OECD cooperation. Collecting, analyzing, and coordinating information to prepare materials for instructions and positions is also part of the role, as well as providing expert support to the Government Offices and other authorities. The job involves contacts and meetings with EU institutions and other member states, which requires travel within Europe. Communicating with Swedish stakeholders such as other authorities, businesses, and interest organizations is also part of your responsibilities. You will work both independently and in working groups with individuals from various competencies. **QUALIFICATIONS** We are looking for someone with a relevant academic degree at least at the master's level in toxicology, ecotoxicology, or equivalent education that we consider comparable. You have relevant work experience, preferably from a government agency. Experience working at the EU or international level, such as with negotiations and regulatory development, is an advantage. A doctoral degree is also a merit. As a person, you are pragmatic, have strong collaborative skills, are accustomed to arguing on substantive issues, and creating consensus. You are structured, have the capacity to systematically sift through and prioritize large amounts of information, can work both independently and in a group, and possess good communication skills. The tasks require you to express yourself well in both spoken and written English and Swedish. You ideally have an interest in environmental issues, particularly chemical matters, and experience or knowledge of chemical legislation and Swedish environmental goals is advantageous. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. **OTHER** At the Swedish Chemicals Agency, every employee is important for the functioning of our authority, and we therefore care about your health and work environment. Your knowledge is valued, and you have great opportunities for development. We expect all employees to contribute to a positive work climate and understand their role as civil servants in our shared mission. You will work and act according to our employee policy and our values. We also conduct targeted work for equal rights and opportunities. Based on the needs of the organization, there is the possibility, after agreement with the manager, to work up to half of the working hours remotely. Selection will take place continuously, and applicants may therefore be called for an interview before the application period has ended.
