About this role

Development Leader for Public Art We are seeking an engaged and experienced development leader who wants to help shape Skellefteå's public spaces through artistic design. In a growing and changing Skellefteå, art plays a crucial role in creating identity, belonging, and attractive living environments. Here, you will have the opportunity to influence how people experience their surroundings – both today and far into the future. YOUR ROLE You will have overall responsibility for public art work according to the one-percent rule, which Skellefteå municipality has applied since 1962. This means leading the entire process from art program to finished design, coordinating consultation and reference groups, drafting contracts, managing budgets, and engaging in dialogue with artists and other stakeholders. You will prepare submissions for the committee and ensure that art projects maintain high artistic quality. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating an artistic council that manages the public art policy. Your duties include managing and maintaining public art, including inventory, repairs, and care plans. You will contribute art and cultural perspectives in planning and building processes, and work to communicate art through web, print materials, and press. The role also involves responsibility for the municipal art archive, where you will participate in registration, hanging, and retrieval of artworks. You will drive development projects in public art through collaboration with external actors like businesses and civil society. Work will be conducted on-site in Skellefteå municipality, primarily at Sara Cultural Center, but also at the art archive and other locations where art projects are implemented. YOUR COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE You have relevant post-secondary education and good knowledge of contemporary art, public art, and public environments. You have several years of experience working with high-quality public art, excellent verbal and written communication skills in Swedish, and good English communication abilities. A Class B driver's license is required. Additional merits include experience with one-percent art, knowledge of artistic methods, techniques, and materials, and ability to formulate art programs, procurement documentation, and contracts. Experience writing official documents, knowledge of planning and building processes, archival work, budget management, project leadership, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and public procurement experience are also valuable. We seek someone curious about how digital development can contribute to the organization, with an eye for identifying opportunities in change. You work systematically, plan and prioritize easily, and are result-oriented with a drive to achieve set goals. You are confident in your professional role, take responsibility, and act with good judgment. Furthermore, you have a strong ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate with various stakeholders. YOUR NEW WORKPLACE You will become part of Skellefteå Art Gallery within the Culture and Art unit, which is part of the Culture and Leisure Office. The work group is responsible for the municipality's art activities, including exhibitions and programs, art collection, public art under the one-percent rule, and the Meijer Collection. Together, we work to ensure that art touches, engages, and contributes to societal development in Skellefteå. GOOD TO KNOW We recruit based on competence, focusing on your experience, knowledge, and potential. Instead of a personal letter, you will answer some selection questions and attach an updated CV.
