Are you an engaged leader who can translate complex economics into comprehensible policy? The Commercial Employees' Union is now seeking a Head of Research and Chief Economist. As Chief Economist, you will have a central role and become the voice of Commercial Employees' Union in economic-political debates. You will lead the union's research activities, participate in contract negotiations, and represent the union in contexts where wage formation, labor market, and economic policy are shaped – both within the LO family and in public debate.
The position is a permanent employment with placement at the union's headquarters in central Stockholm. Start date is according to agreement. Last application date is December 4th, selection and interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis. Welcome with your application!
About the Position
As Head of Research and Chief Economist, you will lead the union's research activities with five researchers. This is an exciting role in a complex environment with varied tasks and many contacts. Your primary mission is leadership and analysis, always with a strong interest in developments in the Swedish labor market and issues important to members.
In the role, you are responsible for:
• Leading and coordinating research activities with personnel and budget responsibility
• Creating a learning environment with high analytical quality, collaboration, and strong union commitment
• Analyzing socio-economic and political issues affecting union members
• Contributing to economic policy development within LO and the union movement
• Preparing economic documentation, reports, consultation responses, and opinion-forming texts
• Serving as an expert in contract negotiations and performing cost calculations for negotiation rounds
• Representing the union in contacts with authorities, researchers, and other societal actors
You will be part of the Commercial Employees' Union management group for communication, research, and opinion, with responsibility for research activities. Your immediate manager is the Head of Opinion and Communication.

We Are Looking for Someone Who Has:
• Leadership experience, preferably with personnel management
• Relevant university education in social economics, economics, economic history, or related fields
• Good knowledge of statistical analysis and statistics/calculation programs
• Excellent ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and proficiency in English in work contexts
• Experience with labor market and wage formation issues is highly meritorious
• Previous responsibility for leading research activities is meritorious
