About this role

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority is a preparedness authority with important tasks in crisis preparedness and civil defense. Within crisis preparedness, we are tasked with being proactive and providing expert competence in national radiation protection preparedness. This includes preparedness, regulation, and permit assessment. The Development and Preparedness Unit is responsible for developing and directing preparedness. We work proactively in crisis preparedness and civil defense. The unit consists of a unit manager and 15 employees. We are now seeking an investigator focused on preparedness and nuclear technical analysis for nuclear facilities, both for existing and potential new facilities. Nuclear technical analysis involves assessing the status of a nuclear facility during an event and estimating the potential size of a release (source term). Societally Critical Work Tasks You will be part of a group working proactively, in collaboration with nuclear facilities and relevant authorities, to enhance society's ability to manage a radiological emergency situation during both crisis and heightened preparedness. We offer you a developmental and exciting job where you will primarily work on: • Developing the nuclear technical analysis function in the crisis organization • Leading and participating in investigations • Monitoring the external environment • Developing regulations The work involves participating in national and international development efforts and initiating and implementing collaboration with authorities and other relevant organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and authorities in Nordic countries with similar tasks to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. We are seeking candidates who have: • Civil engineering degree or other education deemed relevant by the authority, or several years of work experience in the nuclear industry • Good knowledge of reactor safety or safety in other nuclear activities, focused on work in crisis organizations with high safety requirements, severe accidents, development of disruption instructions, accident management strategies, and/or other work involving development and/or training in accident management • Strong ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English It is meritorious if you have experience with: • Preparedness at nuclear facilities • Source term estimations • Safety function structure and design • Plant-wide safety analyses or accident analyses using tools like Riskspectrum, MAAP, MELCOR • Regulatory work or interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirements • Training and exercise activities • Project management or other types of team leadership Personal Characteristics As an investigator, you need to be analytical and able to work systematically. Personally, you should be self-driven, initiative-taking, and take responsibility for your work. You should be comfortable working independently and also enjoy and be able to collaborate with others. Employment Terms This is a permanent position starting by agreement. The position may begin with a six-month probationary period. Travel for work is expected. Work location is Solna or Gothenburg. Some of our tasks are classified, which may require a security review with registry control according to the Security Protection Act. Some classified tasks may require Swedish citizenship. You may be part of the authority's crisis organization and could potentially be war-assigned to the authority. The crisis organization performs radiation protection assessments and nuclear technical analyses and collaborates with other relevant actors to manage radiological emergency situations, including situations during heightened preparedness.
