The Department for Water Resource Management is responsible for the freshwater component of the ecosystem-based management that the agency conducts. This also includes areas such as biodiversity, area protection, coordination of measures, and environmental assessment. This is done in close collaboration with other departments within the agency, with a clear focus on managing all water-related issues from source to sea. The Biodiversity Unit works on the protection and conservation of natural types and species, as well as other biodiversity issues in lakes, rivers, and seas. **Description** As a researcher in biodiversity, you will help shape the future work on biodiversity in our seas, lakes, and waterways, both at the national and international levels. As part of our team, you will participate in internal and external working groups, meetings, and forums where you are expected to contribute to achieving concrete results to further strengthen biodiversity. **Responsibilities** The unit primarily works on: - Planning, preparing, and investigating biodiversity in seas, lakes, and waterways - Participating in the agency's work with the EU regulation on nature restoration, based on the unit's mandate to manage habitat types, species, and their habitats - Providing guidance on area protection and/or management of protected areas - Supporting the government office in Sweden's convention work on biodiversity - Management of marine mammals, as well as other aquatic species - Other tasks as required by the unit **Qualifications** We are now looking for someone who wants to contribute, together with the unit, to our work on strengthening aquatic biodiversity. You will be able to contribute to the unit's work by, for example, developing guidelines for aquatic area protection, providing expert support to the government office, creating management plans for aquatic species, or contributing to the implementation of the EU regulation on nature restoration. We are looking for candidates who have: - At least a master's degree in a natural science field - A minimum of five years of work experience in areas such as area protection, international convention work, marine mammals, or equivalent work - Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written It is advantageous if you have work experience in: - Public administration - Biodiversity, particularly in limnology - Implementation of the EU's Habitats and Species Directive - Mapping of species and habitats - Experience in handling and drafting consultation responses and reports To succeed in this role, you need to have a good ability to both plan and organize your work in a structured manner. We consider it important to be able to collaborate, be responsive to your surroundings, and communicate effectively with others. You should have a strong ability to collect, process, analyze, and disseminate information. In this role, it is important to be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively, to contribute to the unit's and the agency's efforts to strengthen biodiversity. **Conditions** The salary range for the position is between 45,000 and 53,000 SEK/month and is based on skills in relation to the relevant qualifications for the position. The position is a permanent employment, with the start date as soon as possible by agreement. The work is normally performed at the agency's premises, but employees may, by agreement with the unit manager, work a maximum of two days of a full-time position or the equivalent of two days per week remotely. **Additional Information** The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management is located in modern premises in Gullbergsvass, a 10-15 minute walk from Gothenburg Central Station.
