We are now seeking a Head of Education for the Department of Learning for Youth and Adults – a role for those who wish to lead, develop, and manage an organization that plays a central role in the future of education in Skellefteå. Here, you will combine strategic leadership with everyday presence and further build upon established structures with a focus on quality, trust, and a shared direction. YOUR ROLE As the Head of Education for Learning for Youth and Adults, you will lead an organization that encompasses upper secondary education, adult education, and the labor market unit. You are the manager of three principals – two in upper secondary education and one in adult education – along with two operational managers. In relation to the principals, you hold the strategic leadership function – you are responsible for the overall direction and development of the organization. Together, you will ensure that the department's operations are driven with quality, clarity, and a common vision. A central aspect of the role is collaboration within the management of the Education and Labor Market department. You contribute to unifying and developing all operations within the administration. Along with the heads of education for preschool and primary school, you also have a special responsibility to create a coherent thread throughout the entire education chain – from early years to adult learning – and to strengthen the holistic perspective in the department’s mission. Through shared leadership and ongoing dialogue, cohesive governance and development are achieved across the entire administration. You will collaborate with political entities, providing analyses, professional assessments, and decision-making support to the committee and administrative leadership. Through a trusting interaction between politics and the civil service organization, you will translate goals and decisions into practice, creating stability, clarity, and progress in the shared mission. The role also includes close cooperation with trade unions, where you will contribute to good dialogue, trusting relationships, and effective collaboration that supports the organization's development. An important part of your work is the external collaboration and cooperation with businesses, industry councils, regional actors, and other societal stakeholders. By building relationships and fostering collaboration between education and the labor market, you enhance the relevance of education and help address future skills needs. You work in a process-oriented and systematic manner with follow-up, analysis, and learning as the foundation for development, leading with trust, clarity, and direction. YOUR COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE We are looking for someone with a relevant university degree and several years of experience as a manager in the field of education, preferably in a larger and complex organization. You have previously led other managers and are accustomed to working with assignment governance, goals and quality work, and analysis as the basis for development. You are comfortable working in a politically governed organization and have a good understanding of both municipal and state governance within the school system. As a leader, you are stable, communicative, and relationship-building. You have the ability to foster trust and participation and thrive in an environment where collaboration, structure, and long-term direction are keys to success. You lead through dialogue, clarity, and trust – and have the courage to stand firm when necessary. For the role, it is a requirement that you provide a valid extract from the criminal record.
