The Department of Geosciences has approximately 80 employees. We educate geographers and geoscientists who can fill the growing need for geoscientists in society. The department offers bachelor's and master's programs in geosciences and geography, teaches geography for teacher education programs, and provides doctoral education with several geoscientific specializations. Our strong research areas include climatology, geodata, geochemistry, and applied geoscience with consideration for natural resources.
Job Duties
The Department of Geosciences is seeking educational assistants for intermittent employment (hourly work as needed) during December 2025 and spring 2026.
The work involves assisting with laboratory components in geography, geology, and geoscience courses. Duties include preparing laboratories, including materials, in consultation with the course coordinator, which can take place both at the department and in the field. During laboratory sessions, responsibilities include presenting activities and guiding students. Tasks may include grading student laboratories and other undergraduate education assignments. Some participation in research to support various researchers may also occur.
As an educational assistant, tasks may involve contact with prospective students (undergraduate or master's level). This could include shadowing a student, participating as a student ambassador when a school class visits, or other forms of collaboration, or contributing photos/videos to digital channels to provide insight into geoscience studies.
Duties may also include reorganizing facility spaces, moving, and inventory.
Qualifications
We are primarily targeting students within the Department of Geosciences.
Applicants should be enrolled in an ongoing education program at the Department of Geosciences and have completed the course GV1410 or GE0400. Additional requirements may apply depending on the tasks. A completed bachelor's program in geography or geosciences is meritorious. Master's students with equivalent courses to GV1410 and GE0400 are also welcome to apply.
For teaching tasks, the following are desired: good Swedish language skills at C1 level and English, and good computer skills. You should be able to quickly understand specific problems and develop solution alternatives that can be communicated to students. Previous experience in supervision is meritorious.
Employment
This is an intermittent employment, meaning you will work hours as needed from December 2025 to the end of April 2026. Based at the Department of Geosciences. Your official job title at the university will be assistant.
