**About the Workplace**
The Centre for School Leadership Development is seeking a university lecturer specializing in educational leadership for a fixed-term position of 6 months.
The position is 75% of a full-time role.
The appointment is based at the Centre for School Leadership Development within the Department of Political Science at Umeå University. Start date is January 1, 2026, or as agreed.
The Centre for School Leadership Development is part of the Department of Political Science at Umeå University and is an interdisciplinary and independent unit with approximately 25 employees engaged in research on educational leadership, organization, and school development. **Main Responsibilities**
The responsibilities include teaching in the Principal Program, where the primary content involves lectures, seminars, supervision, examinations, and course management. Teaching takes place both at Umeå University and at training locations outside Umeå, primarily in southern Sweden. The tasks are largely concentrated on teaching at the Centre for School Leadership Development and in the Principal Program.
At the Centre for School Leadership Development, which educates and conducts research on leadership and governance in Swedish schools and preschools, teaching and supervision at an advanced level in the field of educational leadership is prioritized. The Principal Program, which is the state-regulated training program for principals in schools and preschools as well as for others in equivalent leadership roles, also constitutes a significant portion of the teaching assignment.
The responsibilities also include active participation in the unit's activities and engagement in its operations.
**Eligibility**
To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, according to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the Employment Regulations for Teachers at Umeå University, candidates must have demonstrated pedagogical competence, hold a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific qualifications, or have other professional skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the tasks included in the appointment.
Eligibility pertains to a doctoral degree in political science, education, educational work, sociology, psychology, law, or other relevant subjects for the position.
**Assessment Criteria and Weighting**
The assessment criteria include the degree of pedagogical and scientific competence within the field of educational leadership. In weighing these criteria, pedagogical competence will be given the greatest importance.
In assessing pedagogical competence, particular emphasis will be placed on documented experience of teaching based on scientific principles at the university level, as well as commissioned training such as the Principal Program or similar. Special attention will also be given to demonstrated teaching ability. Significant weight will be placed on documented experience in planning and evaluating teaching, as well as in supervision and examination. Experience and knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative scientific methods are advantageous.
In assessing scientific competence, emphasis will be placed on scientific quality. The degree of scientific quality will primarily be evaluated based on independent scientific production, where the scope, breadth, and depth of the research will also be considered. Attention will also be given to research focused on educational leadership and to scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals in the fields of organization and leadership.
A general requirement for teachers at Umeå University is good collaborative skills, as well as the competence and suitability necessary to perform the tasks effectively.
