University West is seeking a Senior Lecturer in xxx
For the Social Work program with a social pedagogical profile, University West is looking for a Senior Lecturer in Social Work, starting from February 1, 2026, until November 30, 2026.
The social pedagogical profile of the Social Work program emphasizes the educational dimension of social work. Specifically, it highlights social pedagogical methods and approaches grounded in theories of learning, social mobilization, and participation.
Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities include teaching and research in social work. This involves teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels in the Social Work program, in courses related to social psychiatric care, in commissioned education, and collaborating with the surrounding community. Additionally, participation in the collegial work within the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy, as well as administrative tasks, is included.
Eligibility requirements for the position of Senior Lecturer:
- Demonstrated pedagogical proficiency (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act). Applicants lacking pedagogical merits from an academic environment must possess equivalent qualifications to the university's eligibility requirements, which may have been achieved through other means than within the academic environment.
- Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education pedagogical training is lacking, employment may still occur on the condition that the employee completes the training within the first two years of employment.
- A doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence in the field of social work.
Additionally, the following is required for this position:
- Ability to teach and supervise in Swedish and English.
- Documented good collaborative skills.
- Subject knowledge and experience in teaching higher education within the core areas of social work.
Meritorious for the position are:
- Experience in teaching higher education in social work with a specific focus on social work as a profession and the professional identity and working conditions of social workers.
- Documented ability to plan and develop courses, as well as to conduct teaching, supervision, and assessment at both undergraduate and advanced levels.
- Ability to develop research and educational activities in collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community.
- Experience in research within the field of social work with a specific focus on social work as a profession and the professional identity and working conditions of social workers.
Assessment criteria:
In evaluating the applicants, equal weight will be given to scientific and pedagogical proficiency. In assessing proficiency, the subject area of the position, subject description, and job responsibilities will be considered. In evaluating pedagogical proficiency, both scope and quality will be taken into account. Particular emphasis will be placed on experience in planning and conducting teaching in social work. Supervision at both undergraduate and advanced levels is meritorious.
In assessing scientific proficiency, publications of high scientific quality will be considered. Research within the theories and methods of social work, focusing on social work as a profession and the professional identity and working conditions of social workers, is especially meritorious. The university will primarily consider the applicant(s) who, after a comprehensive assessment, are deemed to have the best conditions for collaborating internally and externally to carry out and develop the aforementioned responsibilities and actively contribute scientifically and pedagogically to the department's development. Furthermore, particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to collaborate with individuals, both internally and externally, and actively participate in the department's educational, project, and research activities.

The position is a general fixed-term employment for 10 months.
