About this role

At the Department of Social Anthropology, teaching and research are conducted with a global and comparative perspective in the study of the social and cultural variation that characterizes today's world. Geographically, the department's research spans nearly all continents and is based on a rich international research tradition that is constantly renewed. The department employs a total of 25 full-time staff. More information about us can be found at: https://www.su.se/socialantropologiska-institutionen/ Subject/Subject Description For over 100 years, social anthropologists have studied how people create meaning in an ever-changing world. The defining characteristic of the subject is its interest in human social variation. The subject's specific method—long-term fieldwork—provides a comparative perspective. Social anthropologists study why societies are so different, what it means to be human today, and the significance of cultural differences in a globalized world. Job Responsibilities The main responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate level in social anthropology: Environment, climate, diversity, and supervision at the bachelor level, as well as research in the BIOrdinary project focusing on environmental and multispecies anthropological research in Southeast Asia. Teaching will be conducted in Swedish. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, candidates must have demonstrated scientific and pedagogical competence, as well as a doctoral degree in social anthropology/cultural anthropology. Previous research experience in environmental and multispecies anthropological research in Southeast Asia is particularly meritorious. As a general eligibility requirement, candidates must possess the ability to collaborate and the competence and suitability necessary to perform the job responsibilities effectively. Excellent proficiency in both English and Swedish is required. Assessment Criteria Equal weight is given to scientific and pedagogical competence. Additionally, administrative ability and the capacity to collaborate with the surrounding community are also valued. A higher education pedagogical qualification of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is advantageous. About the Position The position is full-time and is limited to the period from January 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026. Start date is as soon as possible or by agreement.
