The Music School in Piteå is a small music school in the nature-close coastal city of Piteå. At the Music School, musicians are trained in various genres. Internationally leading research in musical performance is conducted here, in collaboration with research centers in Europe and the USA. At the Music School, research and education are integrated and carried out in close cooperation with the regional music scene in Norrbotten. The Music School in Piteå was founded in 1978 as part of Luleå University of Technology. In the same building as the Music School is Studio Acusticum, one of northern Europe's most modern concert halls.
We are seeking a lecturer in harmonica, ensemble, and improvisation, whose primary work tasks are to teach in our bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs.
Subject Description
Musical Performance is a research subject where issues relevant to musical creation and learning are investigated. The subject combines forms of knowledge in art and science and encompasses the entire musical field, regardless of genre or form of expression.
Work Tasks
University lecturers are expected to contribute to the university's development work, help bring in external research funding to the subject, and participate in or show interest in management and administrative assignments. For university lecturers in artistic activities, this also includes participating in artistic development work and/or research projects and communicating their results through artistic works and/or academic publications. Furthermore, being active within one's own artistic field is expected. Research in Musical Performance is conducted in collaboration with professional music industry actors, but also interdisciplinarily with other research disciplines and in cooperation with other art forms.
Qualifications
To meet the requirements for employment as a university lecturer in artistic activities, the applicant must:
- Have a doctoral degree in Musical Performance
- Have a good national level as an artistic performer and/or researcher, where the qualification requirement shall be assessed considering the nature and tradition of the subject area
- Demonstrate pedagogical skill through reflected experience, teaching ability, and teaching development
- Have completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to 7.5 ECTS credits, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge

- Documented scientific and artistic skill, e.g., quality, recognition, artistic education and experience, productivity
- Documented pedagogical skill, e.g., documented experience in teaching and pedagogical development
- Other assessment criteria
- Proficiency in a Scandinavian language
- Ability to teach in English
- Ability to contribute to the continued development of the music school
- Ability to collaborate and administer, and be present in the operations
- Ability to interact with the surrounding society
