The department currently has close to 100 employed researchers, teachers, doctoral students, and operational support staff. The department is centrally located in Gothenburg. Subject Cultural Heritage Subject Description Cultural heritage can simply be described as the various ways history is present in society. It can be studied both as a remnant of a past reality and as something used and made meaningful in the present. Teaching and research about cultural heritage revolve around two main questions: What do we do with history? And what does history do to us? Cultural Heritage has been established as a main area at the undergraduate level at the Department of Historical Studies since 2010. Teaching is primarily conducted within the three-year Cultural Heritage Program leading to a bachelor's degree in the main area. The program has an interdisciplinary orientation where studies in the main area are combined with basic and advanced courses in one of the program's profile subjects: history, archaeology, ancient culture and society, cultural studies, social anthropology, and human ecology. Teachers from these disciplines also participate in program instruction. Additionally, there are further courses in the main area, such as food heritage and the history of the Swedish cultural landscape. The main area of cultural heritage is situated at the intersection of the department's three research disciplines and between academia and the surrounding society. This makes it a strategic development field. Long-term, the department aims to establish Cultural Heritage as a main area at the advanced level. Job Responsibilities The university lecturer position includes teaching and supervision within the main area of Cultural Heritage and within the main areas of history, archaeology, or ancient culture and society. We are seeking a person who can be driving force in developing Cultural Heritage as a main area both within the department's current educational offerings and with a view to developing new courses and programs, at basic and eventually advanced levels. The position also includes research, administration, course planning, development work, and information and collaboration with the surrounding society. Supervision and teaching at the doctoral level may also occur. The incumbent shall actively participate in the department's internal work and academic environment and is expected to be physically present at the department in Gothenburg.
