Job Duties
Mälardalen University is seeking an engaged and development-oriented university lecturer in physiotherapy who wishes to help shape the physiotherapists of the future with a behavioral medicine focus through teaching, research, and collaboration.
As a university lecturer, you will teach in the physiotherapy program as well as in advanced-level courses; doctoral courses may also be relevant. The subject of physiotherapy at MDU has a behavioral medicine focus, meaning that the behavioral medicine perspective permeates the teaching of physiotherapy. You will plan, implement, and develop both practical and theoretical teaching and supervise and examine students at all levels. Some instruction may take place in English.
The focus of your teaching will be on the theory and application of physiotherapy with an emphasis on behavioral medicine, particularly in the musculoskeletal area, including clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice, and practical instruction. Teaching will also be designed and tailored based on the applicant's expertise and interests, the needs of the department, and may evolve over time.
The physiotherapy program emphasizes student-active learning methods, and starting from the autumn of 2026, the program will also be offered as a hybrid education, which means you are expected to contribute to the development of new digital teaching methods and pedagogical development. Responsibilities also include general administration and professional development as well as contributing to a curiosity-driven academic culture.
A significant part of the role is to conduct research in a relevant area for the field. You are expected to actively contribute by seeking external research funding, publishing scientific work, and integrating research into teaching. Research within the School of Health, Care, and Welfare is conducted within three interdisciplinary knowledge environments focusing on societal challenges related to health and welfare. The three knowledge environments are Sustainable Aging, Sustainable Working Life, and Sustainable Upbringing. In these knowledge environments, we work together to integrate various sciences in research, education, and in collaboration with external partners. Physiotherapy with a behavioral medicine focus is an integral part of all three knowledge environments.
Collaboration, internationalization, and sustainable development are prominent aspects of the university's vision as well as its research and education mandates, and as a university lecturer, you will actively contribute to these areas within the framework of the university's development efforts.
As a lecturer, you work independently and take your own initiatives while collaborating with other colleagues in the group and at MDU, as well as being involved in the development and planning of teaching and research.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skills and has obtained a doctoral degree or possesses equivalent scientific competence.
Scientific and pedagogical proficiency must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.
To be employed as a lecturer at MDU, higher educational pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those who are employed but lack higher educational pedagogical training will be offered the opportunity to complete such training within two and a half years of employment. The higher educational pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of education.
In addition to the qualifications established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, the following requirements apply for this position:
• Degree in physiotherapy and Swedish certification as a physiotherapist.
• Doctoral degree in physiotherapy, medical science, public health science, nursing science, or another relevant area for the subject of physiotherapy.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English at the level required to perform regular duties within teaching, research, and administration.
