The School of Music and Drama is now seeking a Unit Head for the Department of Pedagogy: Music, Dance, and Theater. The unit head position is time-limited for six years with the possibility of extension. The employment is as a university lecturer in aesthetic expressions with a focus on educational science. More about the School of Music and Drama: http://www.gu.se/scen-musik Subject Description Aesthetic expressions with a focus on educational science is an interdisciplinary subject that emphasizes the relationship between art forms such as music, visual arts, dance, drama, and theater, and educational science perspectives on teaching and learning in these areas. The emphasis is on didactic and educational science perspectives within preschool, primary school, and secondary school teaching, but other forms of institutional learning, such as culture schools or popular education, may also be included. The subject also encompasses studies of aesthetics and learning from a general didactic perspective, with a special focus on concepts like aesthetic learning processes, aesthetic perspectives, and aesthetic approaches. As an undergraduate subject, it is interdisciplinary, drawing knowledge from both educational science and artistic domains. The scientific basis of the subject is primarily found in the research field of Aesthetic Expressions with a Focus on Educational Science. Research Environment The department has a broad research environment in the artistic and pedagogical areas, with research and development projects involving collaborations at national, Nordic, and international levels. Both artistic and scientific research are encompassed in the department's research environment. Within the pedagogical unit, research is focused on music pedagogy and educational science in the aesthetic domain. Job Responsibilities You will be employed as a university lecturer in aesthetic expressions with a focus on educational science. For the first six years, with the possibility of extension, you will have the assignment as unit head of the Department of Pedagogy: Music, Dance, and Theater at the School of Music and Drama. After completing the leadership assignment, your tasks will include teaching and research. There are good opportunities for supervising students at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The position involves active participation in subject development, focusing on both pedagogical and artistic perspectives. As unit head, you will be responsible for education at undergraduate and advanced levels in collaboration with program managers, and for developing and anchoring research and research connections within the programs in cooperation with the subject representative. Tasks also include developing networks and collaboration, both within and outside the university. You will lead the unit's strategic work and have personnel and budget responsibility for approximately 35 employees. The unit head assignment covers 80% of a full-time position. The Faculty of Fine, Applied, and Performing Arts is facing a period of development and change. As unit head, you will lead and support change work within the unit in close collaboration with the faculty management. Between 2027-2029, the artistic faculty will gradually move into Konstnärliga – a new house that brings together the entire faculty's operations. Work is already underway to develop collaborations between departments, especially between pedagogical units. The change work at the pedagogical unit also includes issues related to the new teacher education and the development of education programs for preschool teachers, primary school teachers, and subject teachers. Since externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the institution's and teachers' research activities, the position involves contributing to the institution's work of seeking external funding. Other assignments within the department and faculty may also be included in the employment. Areas of responsibility and work tasks may change as the operations develop. Distance learning may occur in accordance with the University of Gothenburg's regulations. Development/research time is included in the employment in accordance with the University of Gothenburg's working hours agreement for teachers.
