Particular emphasis is placed on the relationship between individual and society, and how the changing conditions of education are shaped by historical, cultural, political, and ethical processes and through pedagogical professional and knowledge traditions. Central themes include bildung, forms of knowledge, lifelong learning, value foundation, democracy, and human rights. At the Department of Pedagogy and Special Education, the subject is characterized by a clear societal perspective, focusing on relationships between pedagogical practices and the surrounding society, as well as how educational systems are created, transformed, and differentiated.
