The Department of Pedagogy and Special Education (IPS) conducts research, doctoral education, undergraduate education, and collaboration assignments within pedagogy and special education. Central areas of interest at the department include education and societal relations, educational systems, school development and leadership, adult education, inclusion, learning, language, assessment, and grading issues. A significant portion of the department's undergraduate education occurs within various teacher programs, but we also offer independent programs, courses, and commissioned education in the above subjects.

Subject Description
Pedagogy is a scientific discipline focusing on education, teaching, upbringing, socialization, bildung, and learning in various contexts, both within and outside the formal educational system. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship between individuals and society, and how education's changing conditions are shaped by historical, cultural, political, and ethical processes, and through pedagogical professional and knowledge traditions. Central themes include bildung, forms of knowledge, lifelong learning, value foundation, democracy, and human rights.
At the Department of Pedagogy and Special Education, the subject is characterized by a clear societal perspective, focusing on relationships between pedagogical practices and the surrounding society, as well as how educational systems are created, transformed, and differentiated. In vocational teacher education, the subject is applied to issues related to vocational education, work-life connection, adult learning, and learning in workplace-based educational contexts.
Job Responsibilities
The position includes teaching and collaboration assignments. Tasks primarily involve teaching in the Vocational Teacher Program, mainly delivered online, including visits to students during workplace-based education. The position also includes supervision and examination at undergraduate and advanced levels, pedagogical development work, and collaboration in external assignments.
Qualifications
Eligibility for teacher employment is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
Eligible for employment as a university lecturer in pedagogy are those who have:
• A degree at an advanced level or equivalent competence or other professional skills relevant to the position's subject content and tasks,
• Demonstrated pedagogical proficiency
The position also requires the ability to teach in Swedish and English.
Assessment Criteria
Merit evaluation will only occur among qualified candidates. In assessing candidates' merits, equal and significant weight will be given to pedagogical and scientific proficiency. Equal care will be taken in reviewing pedagogical and scientific skills, so the application should emphasize both pedagogical and scientific merits equally.
