We are now seeking an individual interested in a permanent part-time position (40%) as a university lecturer in Latin. Workplace and Subject Environment The Latin subject at https://www.sol.lu.se/ in Lund offers courses from beginner to master's level, as well as doctoral education. The subject is part of the Language and Literature Centre's section 3, which also includes Romance languages and ancient and modern Greek. Collaboration across subject boundaries is important in our section, as is presence and engagement in the workplace. Teaching in Latin is primarily conducted on campus. Job Responsibilities The responsibilities of the position include teaching, planning, and course development within various Latin courses at the undergraduate level. Teaching is conducted in Swedish, preferably during the day and on campus. Qualifications Requirements for eligibility include: - A degree at the advanced level in Latin or equivalent knowledge, along with other competencies relevant to the subject focus of the position and the tasks included in the employment. - Demonstrated pedagogical skills. - Completion of a higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way. If there are special reasons, such as not having had the opportunity to acquire such knowledge in previous positions, employment may still occur. In this case, you must complete higher education pedagogical training during the first two years of employment. - Ability to teach in Swedish or another Scandinavian language. Assessment Criteria - Strong subject knowledge relevant to the content of the position and the tasks included. - Good pedagogical ability, which means a strong capacity to conduct and develop teaching and other educational activities at various levels and with varying teaching methods. - Extensive professional experience or other relevant experience for the position. Personal abilities that are significant for fulfilling the job responsibilities will also be taken into account. Particularly Meritorious in Descending Order - Experience teaching the subject at the university level. - Documented strong collaboration skills. - Good ability to develop and lead educational activities at various levels. About the Faculty of Humanities and Theology The Faculty of Humanities and Theology comprises eight departments and conducts a large and varied range of activities within research and education. We have about 700 employees and approximately 4,000 full-time students. About the Language and Literature Centre The Language and Literature Centre (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution focused on languages, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers around 500 standalone courses complemented by a growing number of program offerings at both undergraduate and advanced levels. With its 36 subjects and about 30 doctoral programs, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in education and research, distinguished by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board with the head of department as chair, alongside three deputy heads with specific operational responsibilities.
