About this role

Are you driven by relationship-building, creating connections, and being a role model? Do you want a meaningful and developmental job focused on making a difference for young people? Then you are the person we are looking for! The Support and Intervention unit for youth currently consists of 15 employees and is located under the social services office. The work is organized into 5 teams: Youth Guidance, School Social Support Team, BC-young, Summer Internships, and SSPF. Strängnäs Municipality invests in preventive, safety-creating, outreach, and guiding work to meet young people at risk of vulnerability. As a youth counselor, you will work closely with young people who need support. You will serve as an important link between individuals in need of assistance and the resources available to them. In this role, you will encounter young people in a wide range of life situations with varying needs. Now you have the opportunity to make a difference! RESPONSIBILITIES Your role includes building trusting relationships with both young people and their families, as well as other professional stakeholders. You will provide information about available resources and support measures and guide young people in their decision-making. Your responsibilities also include following up and developing individual support plans to ensure their needs are met. You will keep detailed notes (journals) on conversations and interventions, as well as report on progress and challenges. Participation and gradual movement towards set goals will be monitored and evaluated. Various forms of structured conversations are also part of the assignment to support the youth in gradually moving towards their goals. You will work alongside other professionals from, for example, the social services office, schools, police, leisure services, and healthcare to create a close and intensive holistic support system for the client. You will also be tasked with involving the network around the youth as beneficial. Your tasks include, among others: • Motivational, supportive, and guiding conversations. • Support in contacting other stakeholders and authorities. • Social skills training and moral enhancement work. • Collaboration with key stakeholders for the client’s development and health, e.g., their own network. • Administrative tasks such as record-keeping. • Preventive work in classrooms and individually. • Outreach work in the field. In addition to individual cases, you will also participate in the unit's preventive work, where you will conduct MVP lessons in classrooms and other preventive measures at both individual and group levels. The work is scheduled at irregular hours (day/evening/weekend) according to a timetable. In the unit, we work in various roles towards common goals, and it is a requirement to contribute to the whole and assist other colleagues. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who has: • Post-secondary education of at least 400 YH credits or 180 ECTS in treatment pedagogy, social pedagogy, social work, behavioral science, or other relevant education. • Several years of work experience in social work. • Good knowledge of the Social Services Act. • Strong ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing. • Experience using IT/computers as a support in work, e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, etc. • A valid driver's license (B). Desirable experiences: • Work with outpatient interventions or case management for individuals with dependency issues, criminal behavior, or mental health problems. • Methodological knowledge in MI (Motivational Interviewing), KSL (criminality as a lifestyle), or relapse prevention, MVP, parental support such as ABC and KOMET. • Savry risk assessment. • Signs of Safety. You will be a role model for our youth, and therefore, personal suitability is of great importance. We are looking for someone who is attentive and empathetic, with a strong ability to engage others in a respectful, professional, and low-arousal manner. You easily understand others' perspectives and create safety in your relationships. You are solution-focused and approach challenges with analytical thinking and a clear drive to find constructive ways forward. Furthermore, you are organized and structured in your work approach, enabling you to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without losing sight of the whole. By being interested, listening, and creating understanding for others, you contribute to a respectful work climate. You understand the common mission, act accordingly, and contribute to the whole. Additionally, you are passionate about the mission, loyal, and take responsibility for the work that needs to be done. We want you to share the municipality's values: development, respect, openness, and clarity. Our desire is for a multicultural and gender-equal workplace. For work with children and youth, such as this position entails, a police background check must be presented before employment.
