About this role
Do you want to work in international trade and help companies manage their customs processes correctly? The Swedish Customs Authority has an important societal mission with the vision of "only approved goods across the border," meaning that only legal and declared goods pass through our borders. Our goal is to create a safer society, increased growth and welfare, and fair competition. With us, you will also contribute to combating organized crime and the criminal economy. We are currently seeking a group manager who is ready to make a difference! Do you want to join us on this journey?
The operational work of the Revenue Department is conducted within four units with flexible teams.
We are now looking for a future colleague who can step into the role of group manager for a team responsible for both licensing activities and revenue monitoring. The group works with several types of licenses and is located in Gothenburg within the Western Revenue Unit. The unit consists of a total of seven groups and is led by a unit manager and a deputy unit manager.
About the position
As a group manager, you are responsible for the employees, operations, and work environment within the group. You will make various forms of administrative decisions on an ongoing basis. Collaboration with other group managers within the department is part of everyday life and a prerequisite for being able to lead and direct the work.
You will lead a group that currently primarily works with licensing types within the area of special procedures. These are EU-common licensing types such as active processing, passive processing, end use, and temporary importation. The licenses provide benefits for companies, and specific requirements and conditions must be met to grant the licenses. Within the group, both applications for licenses and follow-up on compliance with requirements and conditions are handled. The group consists of approximately 15 employees, including case officers and operational experts. Some employees are located in other areas, which will require remote leadership.
You will specifically be part of the unit's management team. You will report regularly to the responsible unit manager for the Western Revenue Unit, who is also your immediate supervisor.
The operations of the Swedish Customs Authority are complex and constantly evolving. Improvement work is part of everyday life. Being a manager in the Revenue Department places high demands on flexibility and responsiveness.
We are looking for someone who has:
• An academic degree in, for example, economics, political science, behavioral science, or law, or equivalent education and experience that we assess as comparable
• Several years of experience in the Swedish Customs Authority's fiscal operations and/or at least three years of managerial experience with personnel responsibility
• Well-documented experience in working within government operations
• Strong ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English
• Swedish citizenship
It is advantageous if you have:
• Management and/or leadership training
• Well-documented managerial experience within government operations
• Well-documented experience in qualified case handling and investigative work within an authority
• Experience in developing operations and leading change
• Experience in the development of digital tools and AI to support operations
Personal qualities
• Courage – to make and follow through on decisions, tackle challenges, and try new ideas.
• Good communication skills – that clarify direction and frameworks, and create meaning and understanding through inclusive, listening, and engaging dialogue.
• Psychological safety – in terms of integrity and the ability to handle both your own and others' reactions, thoughts, and feelings.
• Curiosity and humility – by exploring and challenging yourself and others to think differently and do things differently to stimulate learning and innovation.
• Ability to embrace diversity – in terms of skills, experiences, and perspectives to develop operations and manage the increasing complexity in which we operate.
• Positive view of people – with an interest in individuals and their development.
• Collaboration skills – ensuring good cooperation within the group and in relation to other groups and units.
• Ability to actively work for a good work environment.
• Good judgment – to act as a good representative of the Swedish Customs Authority both internally and externally.
