About this role

The position is located within the Culture and Leisure Administration, which is one of eight administrations in Linköping Municipality. We offer all residents and stakeholders in Linköping a wide and varied range of cultural and leisure activities. Do you want to enrich everyday life and improve the quality of life for the people of Linköping? With us, you can make a significant difference and help make Linköping a better place. Welcome to join us! Your Responsibilities Gamla Linköping – a unique cultural-historical open-air museum in the heart of the city – is now seeking an engaged and driven gardener. You will contribute to the preservation and development of our unique cultural-historical gardens, which are a central part of the museum's living history. You enjoy working physically and in an outdoor environment. Your main task will be to be responsible for the long-term care, maintenance, planning, and development of Gamla Linköping's cultural-historical gardens and other cultivation areas. You are our expert on green cultural heritage and operate in an environment that interacts with visitors daily. Together with your colleagues, you will also be responsible for implementing events and programs related to gardening, green cultural heritage, and cultivation, as well as guiding tours of the gardens for various groups. You will also work in the museum's clone archive in collaboration with the National Gene Bank at SLU. We welcome interns, summer workers, and labor market employees into the organization, and as a gardener, you play an important role in this social mission. You will mentor and supervise these employees, which involves tailoring tasks according to individual capabilities, creating a positive work environment, and contributing to their development. Here, you will have the opportunity to combine cultural-historical craftsmanship with providing people valuable work experience. Your Workplace In the role of gardener, you will belong to the Museums and Cultural Heritage unit. This unit consists of the open-air museum Gamla Linköping, the image archive Bild Linköping, and the municipal support for the Castle and Cathedral Museum. Your workplace is Gamla Linköping, one of Östergötland's largest tourist destinations and one of Sweden's most visited museums. Gamla Linköping depicts the city during the period around 1700-1970. The museum consists of three parts: the urban quarters, the rural Valla farm, and the nature reserve Vallaskogen, featuring traditional farmland forests as they were used in the past. Here, city and countryside meet within walking distance from Linköping's center. The open-air museum has about 50 cultural-historical gardens. As a gardener, you will be part of a team consisting of a permanent employee and a seasonal colleague. The gardening team is part of the operational area of Operations and Living Collections, led by an operations manager. Some weekend work will occur, for example, in connection with events and during the summer, as well as 2-3 regular working weekends per year. Who We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is a trained gardener or has other education that the employer deems relevant to the role. You have previous experience in the maintenance of cultural-historical gardens and possess good knowledge of cultural-historical plants and gardens. We also expect you to have prior experience in mentoring or supervising, as you will be responsible for our labor market employees, interns, and summer workers. You need to have good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written. If you have knowledge of clone archives and gene banks through previous experience or education, we consider that an advantage. To succeed in this role, strong leadership qualities and the ability to work in a coordinating and supportive role are crucial. You plan and prioritize your work effectively and purposefully.
