Östervångsskolan in Lund provides bilingual education in a sign language environment for students from preschool through 10th grade. Our students receive instruction in both Swedish Sign Language and written Swedish. We offer accommodation for students who cannot commute daily to school. WORK TASKS Currently, the school has 1 permanent substitute who coordinates absence notifications and assignment of substitutes and ensures teaching materials from absent staff. The coordinator also substitutes in operations as needed. As an hourly substitute, you must be prepared to step in as a teacher, teaching assistant, or residential counselor. You will have direct contact with the substitute coordinator who will structure your assignment. You will adapt and design instruction in accordance with materials provided by regular staff. You are responsible for creating a secure learning environment. You will document the instruction you are responsible for during the day and provide feedback to regular teachers/assistants. You will collaborate with colleagues when support is needed. You will perform your tasks in Swedish Sign Language. Tasks as an hourly substitute may vary. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements: - At least one year of documented experience working with children or youth - Ability to communicate in Swedish Sign Language. Your sign language skills must be documented, and you should describe your sign language proficiency in your application Preferred qualifications: - Experience working with students with disabilities - Good knowledge of teaching in a sign language environment - Strong written Swedish skills - Familiarity with school governing documents - Skills in making instruction accessible for each student - Knowledge and experience with language development work - Understanding of the daily consequences of being deaf/hearing impaired OTHER A criminal record extract must be presented before employment.
