About this role
The Education Administration operates services for 3,500 children and students within preschool and pedagogical care, primary school, high school, adult education, as well as child and student health. The municipality's food department is also part of the Education Administration.
For the spring term of 2026, we are seeking several substitutes for preschools, schools, and after-school programs.
Working as a substitute is both varied and enjoyable! You will meet many children throughout the day and play an important role in creating a safe and learning environment for our children and youth.
Are you a positive and flexible person with an interest in pedagogy? Then you could be one of the candidates we are looking for!
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a substitute, you will work both centrally and in the outskirts of the municipality. You will be offered work at various units within your preferred area at short notice.
Preschool
Here, you will work alongside colleagues in a team. Communication is one of the most important tools when working here. The preschool, in collaboration with the home, aims to create the best possible conditions for each child to develop and thrive; therefore, contact with guardians is a crucial part of the work. You are a role model with a special responsibility to lead by example through respectful and pleasant communication. In your role as a substitute, tasks may include meal situations, assisting with dressing and undressing, outdoor activities, and planned activities such as rest, creative projects, and nature excursions.
School
In primary school, you may work individually to teach a student group, including associated preparatory and follow-up work, or together with regular staff. You are an important role model with a special responsibility to lead by example through respectful and pleasant behavior. If you work as a teaching assistant, you may either support an individual child or assist a group of students.
After-school Program
The after-school program aims, in collaboration with the home, to create the best possible conditions for each child to develop and thrive. We work together to support students in play and to ensure good supervision of students during their time at the after-school program, for example, in the schoolyard. It is important that you engage with the students and get to know them. During school hours, your role may also include teaching or resource time.
Adapted Primary School
The adapted school consists of five classes and an associated after-school program. We are located at Högelid School in the eastern part of Mariestad, with beautiful green areas nearby. Here, we provide significant individual support to meet students' needs and create the best conditions for enjoyable learning. You will also have contact with guardians during drop-off and pick-up times.
QUALIFICATIONS
Working as a substitute requires high flexibility and social competence. Regardless of the area, it is important to be communicative and to have a genuine interest in children's and students' learning.
We primarily seek individuals with post-secondary educational training in pedagogy. Experience within our operations and/or studies in child and youth programs are advantageous. Additionally, relevant experience with children and youth, perhaps from community activities or other volunteer engagements, is considered a merit.
You must be proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written, as communication and documentation are essential tools. Therefore, we expect you to have completed SFI studies. Certificates/transcripts must be presented at an interview.
Due to occupational safety regulations, you must be at least 18 years old. A valid driver's license (B) and access to a car are advantageous for expanding your work areas with us.
Booking Work Shifts
Mariestad Municipality uses a web-based booking system, MEDVIND, for scheduling substitutes. This means that as a substitute, you will receive work requests via SMS. You will manage your availability through a personal substitute calendar in the booking system. To facilitate this, you must have a mobile phone for communication. We will also use the email provided upon employment for general information regarding your position.
Application Process
When applying, we would like you to submit a CV that outlines your previous qualifications. You may omit the personal letter; instead, you will answer a few selection questions. Please attach copies of certificates and transcripts along with the names, workplaces, and phone numbers of at least one reference. We will keep your application on file throughout the application period and will contact you if an interview is relevant.
We place great emphasis on good references and personal qualities, where a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills are valued. Upon receiving a job offer, you will need to present an extract from the Police Authority's criminal record: "Extract for work within school or preschool 442.5". The extract can be requested either as paper mail or digital mail.
We warmly welcome your application!
