About this role

The Culture Administration works to promote a broad arts and cultural life for everyone to participate in. We strive for a sustainable and open city that places culture and the arts at its core. The Culture Administration has approximately 800 employees primarily working in libraries, cultural centers, museums, and other cultural activities. Job Responsibilities Do you have an ongoing or completed university education in Library and Information Science and are ready to step into the workforce? Would you like the opportunity to combine your studies with interacting with visitors at the libraries in Gothenburg? Then you might be the one we are looking for! Within the City of Gothenburg, there are 25 public libraries and two children's book buses that are part of the Libraries and Cultural Centers department at the Culture Administration. We are currently seeking individuals who want to work in our libraries. The department offers a rich and varied program that is essential and accessible for all age groups and target audiences. We work with both physical and digital media and provide programming for, by, and with the people of Gothenburg. Our libraries are well-visited and we have a lot to do, which means we need to strengthen our team with additional staff. You will become part of a supportive and competent workgroup that collectively strives to make our libraries engaging for all our visitors. You will work at one or more of our libraries and meet visitors from all over the city. You will participate in the regular library work with a focus on engaging with our visitors in the library. Visitors who need guidance on how to use various digital tools will receive assistance from you. When visitors seek help with which book they want to borrow, you will be there to provide reading suggestions and guidance, or to answer other types of questions. The regular library duties include receiving media, setting up displays for both books and magazines. Depending on your previous experience, you may also have the opportunity to participate in our programming activities both at and outside the library. This is a paid temporary position where you will step in and work as needed during the day, evening, and on weekends. Qualifications To be eligible for the position, you need to have an ongoing or completed university education in Library and Information Science or other education that we assess as equivalent. Experience working in libraries or within any type of service work, public activities, or educational activities is an advantage. Proficiency in multiple languages, in addition to good Swedish, is also a merit. We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting people and has a good sense of service and communication. You have an interest in culture and literature and thrive in collaboration with others. You are accustomed to handling digital services and enjoy providing book recommendations and solving problems. You take your responsibilities seriously, are committed to finishing what you start, and ensure that your work is carried out correctly. We welcome your application as soon as possible. We apply rolling selection, which means that we may call for interviews and offer employment continuously throughout the application period; however, all applications submitted within the application period will be considered. We look forward to your application! Other We strive for diversity where our employees' backgrounds, experiences, knowledge, and personalities enrich our organization. We recruit with a critical perspective on norms and take into account diversity to help reflect the structure of the population in Gothenburg and complement our workgroup. For your interview, please bring your passport/national ID/personal certificate issued by the Tax Agency and possibly proof of residence permit if you have citizenship outside the EU/EEA. This is necessary for us as employers to ensure your identity and that you have the right to work in Sweden. The City of Gothenburg actively promotes equal rights and opportunities and works to prevent discrimination. We care about our employees' health and offer wellness grants, among other benefits. We maintain smoke-free working hours. We recruit based on a competency-based recruitment process to ensure a fair and equal hiring process. In this recruitment, we do not use cover letters; instead, you will respond to a number of selection questions related to the requirements and content of the position. This provides a more fair and accurate assessment. To those representing staffing and recruitment companies: For this recruitment, we have determined our recruitment channels and therefore kindly decline further offers of competence brokerage, advertising, and recruitment assistance.
