Vänersborg, which is the regional capital of Västra Götaland, is located at the southern tip of Lake Vänern, and the municipality has approximately 39,000 inhabitants.
Beautiful and centrally located beaches make it possible to take a dip in Sweden's largest lake during lunch break. The city has good transportation options, and within 20 minutes from the west coast and 50 minutes from Gothenburg, you can reach Vänersborg.
The Street Unit is part of the Community Building Administration and is responsible for a large part of the public environment, such as the municipality's streets, roads, pedestrian and bicycle paths, parks, playgrounds, and public spaces. We also manage municipally owned beaches, forests, agricultural land, and water. Nature conservation, nature-related outdoor recreation, and traffic and parking issues also fall within the Street Unit's area of responsibility. We also handle matters related to our small boat harbors, boat spaces, squares, and flagging.
The Park Unit is one of four units within the Street Unit. The unit is a driving force in the municipality's urban development. We manage and develop the city's parks, playgrounds, nature areas, lakes, and waterways. The unit is also responsible for winter lighting and Christmas trees. On behalf of other departments/units, we also perform dry season cleaning, green maintenance, winter road maintenance, exterior maintenance of schoolyards, maintenance, and new construction of land installations. Job Responsibilities
Your main tasks will be to plan, lead, implement, and follow up on parts within the operations and maintenance unit and investment projects, based on politically made decisions. Within the unit, there are team leaders, park workers, and municipal hosts. The staff, which varies in number throughout the year, is between 10-25 people, for whom you will have personnel and work environment responsibility, as well as budget responsibility for the unit. Recurring tasks include handling error reports, developing maintenance plans, providing opinions on detailed plans, making financial forecasts, and conducting case presentations for politicians. You will also be involved and drive other internal projects such as digitalization, process improvements, business development, and being a resource in the Street Unit's work to achieve its operational goals.
You will collaborate with others in the municipality, both within and outside our administration, as well as with external actors such as contractors and residents.
You will also be part of the Street Unit's management team, which consists of five people.
The position involves daytime work, and flexible working hours are applied. Emergency on-call duty may be included in the position.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is driven and independent in their work and also has good ability to collaborate in a group and be receptive to others' thoughts.
You should have good social skills, good leadership qualities, be communicative and articulate in speech and writing, and have good computer skills, such as handling various programs, case management, invoicing, and documentation. As a person, you are committed and driven, structured, decisive, and proactive. You find that development work and quality assurance of the operation are important. You are empathetic in your approach and value loyalty and have good people skills, as well as a business-near leadership that means creating trust and commitment among employees.
You have a garden/landscape education or other education or experience in park management that the employer considers equivalent. We prefer that you have several years of experience in operations and maintenance work. Previous management experience is good. We place great importance on personal suitability.
A B driving license is a requirement.
