About this role
**Job Title: IAM System Administrator**
**Overview**
Effective IAM is often unnoticed when it operates at its best. At SMHI, we prioritize security by ensuring that the right person has access to the right IT resources with the smoothest user experience possible. Therefore, we are now seeking a new star in IAM who is attracted by the opportunity to work in a complex and exciting IT environment alongside other skilled IT professionals.
**About the IT Department**
At SMHI, we achieve a well-functioning IT operation by providing user-friendly, cost-effective, and purpose-built IT services and tools. The IT department consists of approximately 130 individuals divided into four units: Architecture, Digital Workplace, System Development, and IT Production. The IT Production unit plays a central role in shaping and providing the technical foundation for SMHI's IT environment.
IT Production comprises four groups that collectively manage IT infrastructure, operations, and services. The role belongs to the Infrastructure Server group, which is responsible for server and client platforms, automation, databases, and identity and access management (IAM). The group collaborates closely with the Infrastructure Base (network, storage, data center, virtualization, and IT security functions). Our IT environment is undergoing technological development, including network segmentation and containerization.
**About the Role**
As a System Administrator in identity and access management, you will plan, design, implement, and manage SMHI's IAM services with a focus on security, stability, automation, and future-proofing. You will be involved in both the development of new solutions and the enhancement of existing ones, ensuring a robust and scalable delivery that meets the organization's high standards. You will work within the identity and access management technical area in close collaboration with other system administrators, architects, and security specialists, providing technical support in evaluating and implementing new solutions.
The main focus is IAM – practically involving technical work with Active Directory, PKI/certificate management, and web-based authentication services. The role includes ongoing management tasks such as updates, quality and security enhancements, and automation with AWX/Ansible to reduce manual handling. You will collaborate with users, application managers, and adjacent technical areas within IT infrastructure. Periodically, we drive larger changes where we gather expertise in assignments/projects alongside regular operations. This role is crucial in our efforts to build an IT environment for handling security-protected information.
The position requires placement in a security classification. Swedish citizenship and a successful security clearance with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) are prerequisites for employment.
**Your Profile**
You have relevant post-secondary education in IT infrastructure of at least two years, or equivalent knowledge/experience that SMHI deems comparable. You possess good knowledge of IT infrastructure and can work in Windows or Linux environments on both server and client platforms. Additionally, you have at least two years of experience in deeper technical system administration work within IT infrastructure. You are fluent in both Swedish and English, spoken and written.
If you have education, certification, or work experience in IAM, it is highly advantageous, with examples of technical areas including: Active Directory, PKI, authentication, federation, automation, and scripting. Experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code gives you a strong advantage, and if you have also worked with multi-domain, tiering, and other security implementations, that would be even better.
Furthermore, we appreciate experience with platforms or tools such as GitLab, Grafana, and metric-based monitoring. Experience in IT security work, system development, and working in environments for security-protected information is advantageous but not required. The same applies to experience from public sector work and any form of leadership experience.
**Personal Attributes**
You are proactive and self-driven, with the ability to structure your approach and drive work toward completion. Your collaboration skills are strong – you listen, communicate, and solve problems together with others. You are service-oriented, calm, and accommodating in your interactions with users and colleagues.
We value an analytical and solution-oriented mindset; you thrive on tackling complex technical challenges and possess a holistic view and long-term perspective. You are development-driven, stay updated on technology, and contribute your own drive to modern working methods within infrastructure and security. Resilience, stress tolerance, and loyalty are important – even in times of change. You take responsibility for your areas and your professional development, and you are motivated by working alongside qualified colleagues in a dynamic environment.
**Employment Type:** Permanent Position
