At the Urban Planning Administration, we work with the overall development of our city and countryside based on our respective areas of expertise – all in a spirit of continuous improvement and development where we, as employees, take an active role. Together, we plan, build, and maintain Uppsala Municipality for a sustainable and positive future for everyone who lives and works here. Our goal is for Uppsala to be a municipality that more new residents and businesses want to be a part of. Welcome to us! More information about what it is like to work in Uppsala Municipality can be found at https://www.uppsala.se/jobb/ Uppsala Municipality is seeking a City Antiquarian! Are you an experienced antiquarian with an interest in making a difference in urban development in Uppsala? We welcome your application! Uppsala is one of Sweden's four major cities with over 200,000 residents, and we are growing rapidly! One of our goals is for Uppsala Municipality to grow to 350,000 residents by 2050. At the same time, we have high ambitions and actively work towards sustainable urban and rural development and cohesive strategic planning, where we seriously challenge ourselves and the construction industry. As a City Antiquarian with us, you will have a stimulating and developmental role where you can influence and contribute to Uppsala's positive development. You will be part of the Urban Planning Administration and work at the center of events. The administration consists of approximately 600 employees who work in cross-functional processes where you, as a City Antiquarian, will have well-developed collaboration with units for detailed planning, building permits, and land and exploitation. In other words, you will have a very varied job and many exciting projects to work on. Our vision is to be a role model and pioneer as an attractive employer in the public sector. We collaborate to harness new ideas and work innovatively to support the development of Uppsala Municipality as a modern employer. We work digitally and activity-based with many opportunities for a flexible everyday life and have our workplace in the municipality's new city hall, conveniently located next to the travel center in Uppsala. Your Mission As a City Antiquarian, you play a key role in safeguarding and developing the municipality's cultural environments – from historical buildings and built environments to cultural landscapes and urban spaces. You are both an expert and a driving force in matters concerning cultural heritage and ensure that the cultural-historical perspective has a natural place in the municipality's development. An important part of your work involves contributing to sustainable urban development. You do this by participating in strategic planning, in planning and building permit processes, as well as in the work with various consultations. You will also work with cultural environment investigations and planning materials, either as a commissioner or executor, and provide advice and guidance on building preservation issues to both property owners and the public. The role also includes participating in meetings of the Planning and Building Committee as needed. You will collaborate closely with the municipality's city architect and city gardener – together you contribute to shaping a city where history and the future meet in a sustainable way. Your Background We are looking for someone with a university or college degree in building conservation, cultural heritage management, or another equivalent education. You have experience as an antiquarian, preferably from municipal operations or county administrative boards, and good knowledge of the Planning and Building Act (PBL) as well as the Environmental Code (MB). You express yourself clearly and professionally in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. Familiarity with Uppsala and its cultural environments is an advantage. As a person, you are communicative and attentive, with the ability to adapt your approach to meet different people and situations. You work independently and in a structured manner, but also enjoy collaborating with others and contribute to an open and positive work climate. With your analytical perspective and holistic thinking, you easily see connections and find solutions to complex issues – always with the best interests of the cultural environment in focus.
