About this role

We are intensifying our efforts against benefit fraud within the social insurance system. Would you like to contribute? The Swedish Social Insurance Agency's primary mission is to administer a large part of the Swedish social insurance. In 2024, the agency made approximately 21 million decisions and disbursed about 262 billion kronor. The funds distributed are intended for those entitled to compensation, but each year, significant amounts of public resources are lost due to benefit fraud. The consequences are severe, including a risk to public trust in our collective welfare systems. We are strengthening our capacity to combat benefit fraud by establishing a new department, the Benefit Fraud Department, where we will consolidate the Agency’s expertise, knowledge, and capacity in the field. The department will have a cohesive responsibility for the agency-wide work to prevent and counteract benefit fraud, from operational to strategic levels. This means that the department will play a crucial role in the Agency's efforts against benefit fraud and contribute to the development within its area of responsibility, both within the agency and externally. We are seeking an engaged and goal-oriented Head of Staff for the Benefit Fraud Department. This is an opportunity for you to work alongside your colleagues in the department's management team to develop and lead an operation with a mission of societal importance. Responsibilities and Duties The department’s staff is to create the conditions for effective governance and management of the department. As Head of Staff, you are responsible for contributing to the development of the department’s operations, coordinating and driving cross-departmental or agency-wide assignments, and providing advisory strategic support to the department head and leadership team. Beyond focusing on the department, you will always carry the perspective of the entire agency, and the work will be carried out in collaboration with colleagues in other departments. Initially, an important task will be to unify the department into a cohesive operation with shared goals and a clear strategy. The staff's duties include coordinating government assignments, such as the mission to combat organized crime within welfare, driving the work to implement reforms related to benefit fraud, and collaborating with other agencies. Additionally, the staff will handle conventional support tasks in administrative, financial, and security-related matters. The role of Head of Staff is to shape and develop the staff's operations to best fulfill these tasks. As a leader within the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, you will lead the operations from a holistic perspective based on decisions made. Your commitment to leadership is strong, and the state’s values underpin your work. Through dialogue about the department’s and operations’ purpose, goals, and strategies, you create the conditions for staff to take significant responsibility for the area's results and for their own development. You will be part of the department's management team, and your immediate superior will be the department head. In your role, you will support the department head's decision-making and be responsible for ensuring that decisions are implemented within your operations. As Head of Staff/Area Manager, you will be responsible for achieving an appropriate balance between operational and strategic work, short and long-term priorities, as well as people and tasks. You will have responsibility for operations, budget, and personnel. The position involves handling confidential information, which imposes high demands for proper management. Therefore, it is important that you possess a strong security awareness if you are to work with us. This is a job for you who want to take responsibility. We are looking for someone who: • Holds a university degree or has experience and qualifications that can be deemed equivalent. • Has experience in leadership at a higher organizational level within the state. • Possesses strong leadership skills. • Has good strategic abilities with a holistic and developmental perspective. • Collaborates effectively with others to achieve common goals. • Has very good analytical skills. • Takes initiative and acts proactively, makes things happen, and takes responsibility for results. • Has good self-awareness and is a stable individual, fostering a climate of trust. • Promotes mutual dialogue, is responsive, and adapts communication according to needs and situations. • Has strong communication skills. • Has experience in leading cross-functional work. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. Additional Information The employment is permanent, full-time, with a start date to be agreed upon. A probationary period may apply. In accordance with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency's security guidelines, background checks will be conducted as part of this recruitment. For this position, Swedish citizenship is required. Psychological tests may be used as part of the selection process. Location: Stockholm (Telefonplan), Gothenburg, or Malmö.
