About this role
Region Västerbotten works to strengthen good health and sustainable development. We take responsibility for equitable welfare and ensure that research and innovation deliver results.
As a Specialist Training (ST) physician at the Infectious Diseases Clinic at Norrland University Hospital, you are offered an interesting and challenging work environment in a dynamic and improvement-oriented operation. We care about individual development towards becoming an infectious disease specialist with a clear focus on mentorship and teaching. Here, you have the opportunity to influence and promote patient safety, quality and development, accessibility, and a good work environment.
The Infectious Diseases Clinic is a county and regional clinic with broad activities and university healthcare unit status. Our main task is caring for patients with serious, rare, and complicated infections, with a special role in epidemic and pandemic situations. The clinic has a ward with 19 established care beds and an outpatient clinic. Over 100 people work at the clinic.
Common disease conditions at the infectious diseases ward include sepsis, pneumonia, pyelonephritis, skin and soft tissue infections, joint and bone infections, intestinal infections, influenza, COVID-19, endocarditis, and tuberculosis.
During daytime, our emergency services are located at the infectious diseases outpatient clinic. Here, planned activities also include profile diagnoses such as hepatitis, HIV, tuberculosis, unclear fever, immunodeficiency, and carrier status of multi-resistant bacteria, as well as our travel medicine clinic. Tuberculosis Center North is based at the infectious diseases outpatient clinic. Adjacent to the clinic is also our needle exchange unit.
The Infectious Diseases Clinic conducts extensive consultation services with daily intensive care rounds, specialized consultations targeting surgical specialties, hematology, and pediatric oncology. We have regular consultation services for Region Västerbotten's other hospitals and primary care.
Together with the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Umeå University, the Infectious Diseases Clinic is responsible for clinical infectious disease research, with high research activity. Student teaching for healthcare education is integrated into daily operations. As an ST physician, research opportunities exist, provided funding is available through grants. Within Region Västerbotten, central searchable research funds in the ALF system are specifically allocated for younger researchers (according to the Swedish Research Council's definition) with the possibility of a three-year project grant that can also be used for personal salary.
We welcome those interested in infectious diseases who want to work at and develop the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Umeå.
