We are seeking a Specialist Training (ST) Physician in Hand Surgery for the Hand and Plastic Surgery Clinic in Umeå!

The Hand and Plastic Surgery Clinic at Norrland University Hospital provides highly specialized hand and plastic surgery for patients in the northern region. The clinic also has two national specialized assignments in brachial plexus surgery and dysmelia. Approximately 100 employees from various professions work at the clinic. We have a care ward, a reception, an operating department, a rehabilitation department, and a medical documentation department.
The Hand Surgery unit consists of approximately 10 employees who work together to diagnose and treat injuries and diseases of the hand, wrist, and peripheral nerves in the upper extremity. The unit's mission includes treating acute hand injuries, nerve and tendon injuries, arthritis, congenital malformations, and reconstructive surgery after trauma or disease. Hand surgeons collaborate closely with other specialties and professionals to restore hand function and enable the best possible quality of life for the patient.
The unit operates within a small, well-functioning clinic with short communication and decision-making paths. There is a positive atmosphere within the clinic where employees are engaged with a desire to provide good care and a positive work environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The position offers a structured specialist training in a highly specialized area with national assignments such as brachial plexus surgery and treatment of congenital malformations.
In hand surgery, you will be trained to become a specialist in investigation, assessment, diagnostics, surgical and non-surgical treatment, as well as follow-up and rehabilitation of all types of injuries and conditions in the hand and forearm. The competency area also includes conditions affecting hand and arm function, such as malformations of the hand and arm, injuries to the nerve trunks in the upper extremity and brachial plexus, spasticity due to conditions like cerebral palsy or stroke, and tetraplegia.
You will have the opportunity to develop skills in microsurgery, nerve surgery, and reconstructive surgery, and will be part of a multi-professional team with high expertise and strong collegial support. The hand surgery specialty is largely highly specialized. Common and simple conditions and injuries should be addressed within basic surgical or orthopedic healthcare.
In addition to the specialty-specific program, as an ST physician, you will also participate in the LEKA training. A program focusing on leadership, economics, communication, administration, ethics, and time for personal reflection for ST physicians within Region Västerbotten.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking someone who is engaged and has a genuine interest in specializing in hand surgery. You have a Swedish medical license with the authorization to practice in Swedish healthcare no later than upon commencement, and good Swedish language skills equivalent to level C1. Previous experience in surgical specialties is meritorious, as is ongoing or completed doctoral training.
To thrive and develop in the role, you need to have good problem-solving skills and be able to handle complex situations with clinical sharpness and judgment. You have the ability to maintain focus during technically challenging procedures and are confident in making well-founded decisions even when conditions change. You work with a high degree of precision and have a great interest in surgical techniques, where fine motor skills and dexterity are important for performing the detailed interventions that hand surgery involves.
You are technically skilled, thorough, and able to understand and adapt to patient needs. Communication is a central part of the work, and you can convey important information clearly and empathetically. As a person, you are collaborative, attentive, and happy to share your expertise to contribute to good care and a positive work environment. You have patience and enjoy handling various patient cases in a development-oriented hospital setting.
