About this role

**Description** We are seeking a dedicated support educator for our adapted primary school at Ilanda. The adapted primary school is designed for children aged 7 to 16 who have an intellectual disability or an acquired brain injury. In the adapted primary school, education is tailored to each student's abilities and needs. Students in grades 7 to 9 attend Ilanda School. There are two educational programs within the same department; one for students studying subject areas and another for students studying individual subjects. Students covered by the Act on Support and Service for Certain Disabled Persons (LSS) may be entitled to short-term supervision before and after school, as well as during school breaks. Short-term supervision is a continuation of the primary school’s after-school program. Part of the role involves working in short-term supervision, where you help create a stimulating and enjoyable environment before and after the school day ends. Here, you will have the opportunity to contribute with creative and meaningful activities that enhance the children's social development. The role is an important part of our educational team and involves contributing to the students' development and safety both during the school day and in short-term supervision. We are now looking for a support educator who will work with the group of students studying subject areas during the school day, as well as part of the role within short-term supervision. Are you looking for a varied job that involves being a reliable adult in our students' school day and short-term supervision? Then you are the person we are looking for! **Responsibilities** As a support educator, you will be responsible for short-term supervision, implementation plans, and some documentation for the youth, such as setting goals and activities that align with the purpose of short-term supervision. You will be part of the school day and provide pedagogical support in teaching. Some teaching is included in the assignment. The role involves collaborating with teachers, guardians, and other professionals to create a safe and developmental environment for our students. In some cases, the work may involve supporting students with care needs or students who may exhibit challenging behaviors. Many students use alternative communication methods such as signs, picture supports, and eye-tracking. Therefore, knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication is advantageous. **Qualifications** We are looking for someone who is a trained support educator or has a similar education that the employer deems equivalent. As a person, you easily create security and good relationships with both students and colleagues, and you are accustomed to working independently as well as in a team. You are flexible and can quickly switch between different tasks – for example, from providing support to an individual student with special needs to leading an activity for an entire student group. You are attentive to the students' daily conditions and needs and can adjust your approach accordingly. Your communication skills enable you to clearly explain tasks, calm in stressful situations, and collaborate effectively with both colleagues and guardians. You need to be able to express yourself clearly and accurately in writing, as part of the job involves establishing and following up on the youth's implementation plan in short-term supervision. The work can sometimes be both physically and mentally demanding, and it is important that you have the ability to remain calm, create structure, and build trusting relationships. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the students' daily lives – a mission that is both challenging and rewarding. With us, you will be an important part of creating an inclusive and inspiring school environment where every student has the opportunity to develop as far as possible. **About Karlstad Municipality** The Children and Youth Administration is responsible for preschool and school for approximately 13,200 children and students and is the municipality's largest administration with over 2,400 employees.
