About this role
Job Responsibilities
Are you interested in making a difference as a support assistant for individuals living in specialized housing? We are seeking an engaged colleague who wants to provide support to people in their daily lives, both inside and outside their home.
BmSS Lillkullegatan 23 is located in Örgryte and consists of six apartments. The target group is adults with intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, psychiatric disabilities, and challenging behaviors. This means support often requires a low-affective approach, good structure, and clear pedagogical methods. Your base employment will be at Lillkullegatan 23, but you may also work at Lillkullen and Gula Huset units when needed, all located in the same building.
The support assistant role involves providing support and care in various situations – from everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, and shopping to social support and motivational efforts for participation and development. We work based on Gothenburg City's dignity guarantees, which means meeting each person with respect, participation, and security. These guarantees form the basis of our work and guide how we approach, communicate, and design support according to individual needs.
The work involves collaboration with guardians, social workers, and relatives. You will work based on each individual's conditions and needs, maintaining a professional approach even in challenging situations. You will also collaborate with support pedagogues, support assistants, unit managers, and other care staff, contributing to implementation plans and routines that promote safety and independence. The role includes social documentation in Treserva and medication management through delegation.
We use Time Care for scheduling in 6-week periods. The position involves day, evening, and weekend work according to the schedule.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with a diploma from the Care and Nursing Program, Support Assistant Program, or Child and Leisure Program with a focus on social or pedagogical work. The educational requirement is also met if you have post-secondary specialization in the disability field comprising at least 200 YH credits, 120 higher education credits, or a combination equivalent to at least four semesters of full-time studies. Alternatively, 60 higher education credits and at least two years of experience supporting people with disabilities. The education should include relevant credits in behavioral science, pedagogy, psychology, social work, and (psychiatric) care, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
Communication is a crucial part of the work, requiring a passing grade in Swedish 1 or Swedish as a Second Language 1. Candidates not meeting Swedish language qualifications may be offered a language test through Educateit.
Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, psychiatric disabilities, or challenging behaviors is meritorious. Knowledge of methods such as low-affective approach (LAB), motivational interviewing (MI), alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), and clarifying pedagogy is also advantageous. Good skills in social documentation are considered beneficial.
We seek a secure and stable person able to remain calm in challenging situations. You are flexible and adaptable to changes in operations and individual needs. As a person, you take responsibility for your work and contribute to creating structure and continuity for colleagues and service users. Your approach is characterized by respect, attentiveness, and genuine interest in people. You enjoy collaboration and see the value in creating a good work environment and professional support together with others.
