About this role

**About Amerikanska Gymnasiet** Amerikanska Gymnasiet was founded based on a strong educational philosophy. Our guiding principle is that “we work to help our students and staff reach their full potential.” Therefore, we focus on both knowledge development and personal growth. Our culture is characterized by clear rules of engagement with care. We call it “frames and hugs.” The school’s operations are organized to prepare students for an international job market in a rapidly changing world, which is reflected in our logo: “Get Ready for the World.” Everything that happens at the school is based on our four core values: Courage, Kindness, Knowledge & Curiosity, and Grit. Interactions between students and staff in classrooms and hallways are characterized by behaviors derived from these values. We work closely with students and always prioritize their best interests. **About Amerikanska Gymnasiet, Gothenburg** Located in Lindholmen, next to Karlatornet, our newly built school opened in the autumn of 2024. Approximately 590 students attend the school, studying in the Natural Sciences, Technology, Economics, or Social Sciences programs. Instruction is conducted in both Swedish and English by a competent and driven teaching team with a strong sense of community. **About the Position** We are seeking a special educator/special teacher. As a special educator/special teacher, you will be part of the school’s student health team and play a crucial role in promoting and preventing efforts. You will also work operationally to support teachers in teaching situations, where classroom visits are an important daily component. You will ensure that students receive the appropriate support and that teachers have the necessary knowledge to structure their teaching to be accessible to all students. You will work closely with the school leadership and serve as an extended arm in ensuring that teachers and students have the right conditions to succeed. Together with the school leadership, you will be responsible for planning and driving support initiatives at the individual, group, and organizational levels, as well as for students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and guardians, you will assist in adapting studies for students. You will establish action plans and conduct assessments, such as educational mappings, as needed. You will also support principals in school development issues and actively participate in the school’s development work. You will assist students with structure, planning, and study techniques. We expect you to have a good familiarity with compensatory aids and competence regarding digital learning tools. The position is a permanent employment of 50-100%, depending on whether you can combine the roles of special educator and special teacher. Otherwise, it may be necessary to separate the roles. The employment begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date is negotiable. **Your Profile** We are looking for someone who is a qualified special educator or special teacher, or who is currently undergoing such training and has relevant experience working as a special educator or special teacher at the high school level. You have documented experience in establishing action plans and conducting educational assessments, as well as good knowledge of and practical experience working with students who have reading and writing difficulties or challenges in mathematics. We also expect you to have knowledge of and experience with language development approaches and to be driven by creating conditions for all students to reach their full potential. You maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with students, colleagues, and guardians, and you have a good understanding of the diverse needs of individuals. You find it easy to collaborate and build positive working relationships with a coaching and guiding approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented. You see opportunities and always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overall positive attitude. We seek someone who leads in line with our motto “frames & hugs,” which means clear leadership and rules combined with strong care for each student.
