Ref: 20252487 Valdemarsro Gymnasium is seeking an engaged special education teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities for teaching in an adapted upper secondary school. The position is a permanent full-time employment. In addition to the position, a lead teacher role is offered, a fixed-term appointment for three academic years with the possibility of extension. Job Responsibilities As a special education teacher in this role, you will work with students with severe or profound intellectual disabilities. You will plan and conduct educational work in accordance with the applicable governing documents for the individual program within the adapted upper secondary school. The position involves teaching across all six subject areas and includes mentorship, where you are responsible for the group's and each individual student's academic and social development. The work is carried out in close collaboration with student assistants and other professionals, as well as in good cooperation with guardians and external partners. The assignment includes care and self-care tasks and may involve physical work. In addition to teaching, you will work as a lead teacher to enhance the pedagogical development work for higher goal achievement and equity in the school based on current research. In this role, you will work on development assignments based on areas identified through systematic quality work in collaboration with school leaders, team leaders, and other lead teachers. Through follow-up and analysis of the work, you will focus on developing teaching supported by research, as well as facilitating and developing collegial learning to contribute to the school's goal achievement. In your role, you will disseminate knowledge and professional skills to teachers and other staff, which also includes mentoring colleagues. Qualifications Requirements: • Teacher certification and additional training as a special education teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities (300 ECTS credits) • Experience working with children and adolescents with multiple disabilities, both intellectual and physical • Familiarity with external contacts and collaboration with staff, students, guardians, habilitation services, child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP), and social services • Digital competence, meaning it is natural to use a computer as a working tool and aid • Good insight into the school's goals and governing documents • Very good Swedish in both spoken and written form For the lead teacher role, it is also required that you have: • At least four years of documented well-rated work in teaching within one or more positions in the education sector • Demonstrated exceptional ability to develop teaching and student outcomes and otherwise assessed as particularly qualified for teaching and tasks related to teaching Meritorious: • Experience teaching in adapted upper secondary or primary school for students with severe or profound intellectual disabilities • Experience teaching students within the autism spectrum and competence in low-arousal approaches • Knowledge and experience working with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) such as graphic AAC (GAAC), signs as support (TAKK), and early AAC As a special education teacher, you handle complex pedagogical issues and find solutions that support students' learning and development. You have a deep understanding of how people acquire knowledge and adapt teaching to individual needs and circumstances. Furthermore, you are flexible, see opportunities in changes, and use new information to develop teaching and working methods. Through a relational and inclusive approach, you collaborate closely with students, colleagues, and other professionals to create good learning environments. You value diversity and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect oneself and others.
