About this role
We are now offering an exciting and varied position where you will work both as a school psychologist for the Tuna school area and as an assessment psychologist at the Department of Children and Education (BUF). In this administrative role, you will assess intellectual disabilities (ID) for 6-year-olds in preparation for potential admission to special needs primary school. The reception team at the department includes coordinators for the special needs primary school, doctors, special educators, social workers, and psychologists. The Tuna school area consists of several different units located throughout Eskilstuna and is part of a special needs primary school that currently has approximately 170 students.
**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
As a school psychologist, you will contribute your psychological expertise to the school's work at the individual, group, and school levels. You will be part of the student health team and work closely with school staff to help students thrive and develop both socially and academically. Your responsibilities will include training, supervising, and advising school personnel, both individually and in groups, to better support students' development. You will lead educational initiatives and projects that promote students' schooling and well-being without providing therapy or treatment. The role also involves support and counseling for guardians, writing referrals, and collaborating with external actors such as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP) and habilitation services.
Approximately 50 percent of your role will involve working for the department on ID assessments. Decisions on cases within the team will be made by weighing all parts of the investigation together. You and your psychologist colleague will assess each other's investigations.
We also have a network for school psychologists within Eskilstuna Municipality, where you will have regular collegial meetings and external supervision.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
We are looking for a qualified psychologist with Swedish licensure from the National Board of Health and Welfare and experience in assessing intellectual disabilities. It is certainly an advantage if you have worked with children and adolescents in some professional capacity. You are self-assured and able to adapt to the needs that arise throughout the day. As a person, you enjoy working proactively and are willing to take your own initiatives. You are engaged and have the best interests of the students in mind. Experience in supervision or consultation is advantageous, as is previous work as a school psychologist or as a psychologist connected to the school. In this role, you will have many points of contact, both internally within Eskilstuna Municipality and externally. Your strong communication skills and ability to build good relationships will be essential. You are articulate in both speech and writing.
