School Counselor

One of our employees is moving on to new challenges, and we are now looking for someone who wants to work as a school social worker with us! As a school social worker, you will play an important role in Vänersborg Municipality's work with child and student health and school development. You will work proactively and preventively to create a positive environment for students' health, learning, and development. The work is varied and will involve many important contacts with both internal and external stakeholders. You will belong to the child and student health team and report to the head of child and student health. The child and student health team is a separate unit within Vänersborg Municipality's Department of Education. We have approximately 40 employees, including school psychologists, school nurses, school doctors, school social workers, speech therapists, and positions focused on collaboration and adapted primary education. The child and student health team is a vital part of the schools' work concerning general issues related to students' working environment and values. We also support students' development towards educational goals. In the individually focused work, the child and student health team has a particular responsibility to remove obstacles to each student's learning and development. Responsibilities We are looking for someone who, together with other professionals within student health and in collaboration with school management, educators, other school staff, students, and guardians, wants to work to promote a good psychosocial study environment for students. A significant part of the work involves supporting students and guardians and, when necessary, assisting in establishing contacts with external support services. You will provide guidance and consultation in the psychosocial area. The school social worker also contributes psychosocial expertise in resource and development issues, organizational development, and change management. The work includes administrative tasks such as investigative work and assessments. You will work both at the individual and group levels, conducting individual consultations and group activities in classes. The school social worker also plays an important role in the systematic quality work carried out within the units and the central child and student health team. You will be part of a group of ten school social workers. You will meet your colleagues at regular category meetings and receive regular external supervision. The student health teams serve as support to the principal in student health work. You may be part of several student health teams across different school units in the municipality. The student health teams also include school nurses, special educators, speech therapists, and school psychologists. Other professional groups, such as social educators and career counselors, are also part of the teams at the school units. Qualifications We are looking for candidates with a degree in social work or social pedagogy. We prefer candidates with experience in social work with children and youth, preferably as a school social worker. Conditions A criminal record check must be presented before employment. The position is a permanent full-time role. Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
