Chalmers University of Technology is embarking on an exciting development – the establishment of Chalmers Maritime Academy, which will offer internationally top-class maritime education. We are now seeking a visionary and committed Head of School who wants to lead the development of the institution and contribute to strengthening Sweden's and Chalmers' position as an international hub for the sustainable shipping of the future.
About the Role
As Head of School, you will have overall responsibility for building and developing Chalmers Maritime Academy together with dedicated staff and partners. The Academy is tasked with conducting education, continuing education, and applied, industry-related development and research activities within the operational maritime field. The Maritime Academy is also home to Sweden's largest simulator center for ship navigation. The operations are an integral part of Chalmers University of Technology and closely collaborate with several of Chalmers' departments and research groups.
As Head of School, you will be a key person in Chalmers' efforts to drive the transition towards a more climate-smart and safe shipping industry, and you will have the opportunity to influence both national and international developments in the field. Your mission includes building and leading Chalmers Maritime Academy, developing and positioning the institution, as well as creating a sustainable and long-term operational model in close collaboration with academia, authorities, and industry.
Your Main Responsibilities
• Lead and develop the operations of the Maritime Academy in close collaboration with academia, industry, and authorities
• Strengthen education and industry-related research within the operational maritime field
• Develop a long-term and sustainable economic model in close collaboration with authorities and the business sector
• Ensure close cooperation with other academic research in the maritime field
• Be responsible for personnel, finances, and strategic planning
• Drive efforts for an inclusive, equitable, and innovative work environment
• Contribute to the development of international collaborations and research infrastructure
Your Background
Essential Qualifications:
• Relevant degree at least at the bachelor's level, preferably from the maritime field (e.g., ship captain, marine engineer, or international logistics)
• Good understanding of education, applied research, and industry-related development projects
• Solid network and experience within the maritime industry and an understanding of its future development needs
• Experience in developing operations and/or academic environments
• Clear and responsive communicator with experience in building collaborations
• Experience in leadership with personnel and budget responsibilities
• Excellent ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
Desirable:
• Experience in university administration, educational leadership, or research activities
• Experience in quality and/or certification work
• Experience in leading managers
• Experience in driving national and/or international collaborations
• Experience in leading in inclusive and diverse environments

Employment Type: Permanent part-time position (50%). The role can be advantageously combined with another position.
