Chalmers University of Technology is facing an exciting development – the formation of the Chalmers Maritime School offering world-class maritime-related education. We are now seeking a visionary and committed School Director who wants to lead the development of the school and contribute to strengthening Sweden's and Chalmers' position as an international hub for future sustainable maritime operations.
About the Role
As School Director, you will have overall responsibility for building and developing the Chalmers Maritime School together with dedicated employees and partners. The Maritime School is tasked with conducting education, further training, and applied, industry-close development and research in maritime operations. The Maritime School is also home to Sweden's largest ship navigation simulator center. The operation is an integrated part of Chalmers University of Technology and has close collaboration with several of Chalmers' departments and research groups.
As School Director, you will be a key person in Chalmers' work to drive the transition towards more climate-smart and safe maritime operations, with the opportunity to influence both national and international development in the field. Your mission includes establishing and leading the Chalmers Maritime School, developing and positioning the organization, and creating a sustainable long-term operational model in close collaboration with academia, authorities, and industry.
Primary Responsibilities
• Lead and develop the Maritime School's operations in close collaboration with academia, industry, and authorities
• Strengthen education and industry-near research in maritime operations
• Develop a long-term and sustainable economic model in close collaboration with authorities and industry
• Ensure close cooperation with other academic maritime research
• Responsible for personnel, finance, and strategic planning
• Drive work towards an inclusive, equitable, and innovative work environment
• Contribute to developing international collaborations and research infrastructure
Your Background
Necessary Qualifications:
• Relevant undergraduate degree at minimum bachelor's level, preferably in maritime fields (e.g., ship captain, marine engineer, or international logistics)
• Good understanding of education, applied research, and industry-near development projects
• Solid network and experience in the maritime industry with understanding of its future development needs
• Experience in developing organizations and/or academic environments
• Clear and attentive communicator with experience in building collaborations
• Experience in management with personnel and budget responsibility
• Excellent communication skills in Swedish and English, both verbal and written
Advantageous:
• Experience in university administration, educational leadership, or research activities
• Experience in quality and/or certification work
• Experience in leading managers
• Experience driving national and/or international collaborations
• Experience leading in inclusive and multifaceted environments

Employment Type: Permanent part-time position (50%). The role can advantageously be combined with another employment.
