About this role
Do You Want to Help Build Piteå's New School Library Organization?
We are seeking seven committed school librarians who want to contribute to students' reading enthusiasm, learning, and digital competence – as part of a strong team developing the school libraries of the future.
Are you passionate about sparking reading interest and curiosity in young people? Do you want to contribute to a place where students can grow, discover, and think critically? Then this role might be perfect for you.
In Piteå Municipality, we work together to ensure Piteå remains a place easy to love – where schools and school libraries play a crucial role.
We are now seeking seven school librarians who want to promote both student reading and media and information literacy. You'll become part of a new school library organization, where you and your colleagues will shape the mission from the ground up.
The librarians will have a shared manager and work in teams, each responsible for a number of schools. The role also involves collaboration with the municipal public library, city library, and library bus. Collaboration may include sharing spaces and collections, and co-planning promotional activities. Five of the seven positions will have a clear connection to an established public or city library, while the other two will not.
Intended School Distribution:
• Pitholmsskolan 4–6 and 7–9, Strandbankens Resource School
• Munksundsskolan, Klubbgärdsskolan, Strömnässkolan
• Christinaskolan, Backeskolan, Långskataskolan
• Sjulnässkolan 4–9, Svensbyskolan and Böle School
• Solanderskolan 4–6, 7–9, Björklundaskolan, Kullenskolan, Rosvik
• Porsnässkolan 4–6, 7–9, Backgårdsskolan, Sjulsmarksskolan
• Hortlaxskolan, Norrbyskolan, Jävre School, Bergsviksskolan
Job Responsibilities
As a school librarian, you'll make the library a place where students develop language, imagination, and critical thinking, regardless of local library conditions. You'll spark reading enthusiasm, guide information searches, and ensure the collection is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to all.
You'll promote multilingualism, create an inspiring environment, and collaborate with teachers to make the library a natural part of instruction. The work is independent and proactive, but occurs in close cooperation with teachers, library staff, and your school library team. You'll take initiative, share ideas, and contribute in all these contexts.
Qualifications
We seek candidates with a degree in Library and Information Science or another relevant academic qualification as assessed by the employer. Experience in library work, especially with children and youth, is meritorious.
You are a skilled communicator in Swedish, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to make complex issues understandable and inspiring. You engage with students with warmth, respect, and commitment.
To thrive in this role, you need to be structured, self-directed, and confident in decision-making.
Your digital competence is crucial – you understand how library resources can enhance teaching and spark curiosity. Inspiring reading is a natural part of your mission.
