We are delighted that you are interested in working with us! Like us, you probably value a job that is genuinely impactful. Here at Kalmar Municipality, we work together to continually improve Kalmar—for everyone who lives their lives here, runs a business, or visits our beautiful municipality. The Department of Technical and Property Management provides internal services so that our colleagues in other sectors can focus on their core activities. We are responsible for the operation and development of public land and issue permits enabling the municipal group and businesses to conduct their operations. We also ensure that children, students, and care recipients receive nutritious meals, and that the municipality's facilities are well-maintained and fit for purpose. The work we do directly affects people's daily lives. Every day, year-round. We create the conditions for a beautiful, safe, and sustainable Kalmar. The Technical Operations Unit currently has approximately 150 employees divided into five divisions: street, park, projects, coastal and green areas, and workshop/administration. We have a multifaceted operation, including the management and maintenance of the municipality's streets and parklands in all urban areas, as well as land for forestry, boating, swimming, and outdoor activities. Would you like to help develop Kalmar Municipality's forests for the future? We are looking for someone who wants to combine forestry expertise with community engagement and contribute to the sustainable, accessible, and caring management of our urban forests, production forests, and recreational forests. RESPONSIBILITIES As a Forest Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, maintenance, and development of the municipality's forest areas. You will work strategically with forestry issues and be a key person in ensuring that our forests offer both ecological values, recreational opportunities, and resources for the future. You will also have leadership responsibilities for a small group of employees engaged in practical forest management. The group is experienced and self-sufficient, and you will receive support from colleagues in a leadership group consisting of seven people, as well as from municipal ecologists and other departments within the municipality. Your tasks will include, among others: • Management of municipal forests; urban forests, production forests, and recreational forests. • Development and further refinement of forest management plans. • Management of meadows and nature reserves. • Planning and execution of forest management activities such as thinning, salvage logging, and nature conservation. • Collaboration with other municipal administrations, contractors, and the public. • Leadership and daily coordination of a small work group. • Contributing to the development of the municipality's forestry strategies and sustainability goals. Winter preparedness may be required as part of the job. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for candidates who have: - Relevant higher education, e.g., a degree in forestry, forest technician, forest engineer, or equivalent. - Experience in forestry planning and management. - Good knowledge of the Forestry Act, natural value assessments, and recreational values. - Ability to work with GIS and digital tools for forestry planning. - Interest in working in a politically governed organization with a focus on community benefit. - Completion of a SYN course according to PEFS and FCS forestry standards. It is advantageous if you have: - Experience in municipal operations. - Knowledge of machinery use in forested environments. - Experience with procurement and contractor collaboration. - Leadership experience. We seek someone who is independent, organized, and solution-oriented in their work approach. You have good collaboration skills and are confident in making decisions when necessary. A genuine interest in developing the municipality's forestry values from ecological, social, and economic perspectives is an important aspect of the role. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Kalmar Municipality verifies identity and work permits before any employment is finalized. This means that you applying for a job with us will need to present identification. If relevant, you may also need to provide your residence and work permits. As a permanent employee of Kalmar Municipality, you will be assigned to your workplace in times of crisis and are expected to contribute your work under heightened preparedness.
